POSITION: Special Education Strategist
SALARY: Teacher Scale + 20 days + $3,000 Stipend
Grant funding ends July 2011 position to close

MINIMUM
DUTY DAYS: 10 Months (187 days)
REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution,
Valid Certification in Special Education or Related Area,
Five years of teaching or related experience in Special Education (Secondary) experience.
SPECIAL
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS: Knowledge of Special Education federal and state regulations.
Knowledge of special needs of students in assigned area
Demonstrated knowledge of Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) committee process and Individual Education Plan (IEP) goal setting process and implementation
General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
Demonstrate ability to maintain comprehensive documentation and records.
Ability to work with special and general education staff, parents, students, and community.
Ability to work effectively and harmoniously with administrators, teachers, and other staff
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both in written form and orally
Possess technical skills necessary to perform essential job requirements such as email functions, correspondence and power point presentations.
Treats all people with dignity and respect
PREFERRED
REQUIREMENTS: Masters Degree from an accredited institution.
REPORTS TO: Campus Principal
PRIMARY PURPOSE: To coordinate for a caseload of Special Education students through collaboration with general education teachers and department chairs; complete, compile and maintain Special Education ARD documents, records and files as appropriate; is responsible for working with teachers in their classrooms to improve instruction, assessment techniques; and conduct staff development sessions with content area teachers.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS: Skills in the use of tests and measurements for assessing speech-language disorders.
Knowledge of evaluation, habilitation, and rehabilitation of monolingual and bilingual speech, language, and hearing disorders.

Ability to travel to multiple work locations as assigned.

PRIMARY PURPOSE: Plan and provide direct therapy to students with speech, voice, or language disorders. Assess students and provide therapeutic, intervention to eliminate or reduce problems or impairments that interfere with students’ ability to derive full benefit from the educational program.
