REPORTS TO:
Foremen and Building and Grounds Supervisor.
GENERAL FUNCTION:
To provide students with an attractive and safe natural environment in which to learn.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Must have or obtain within one year from start date a Fertilizer Applicator’s License.
2. Certification of good health by a licensed physician.
3. Must have general knowledge and experience in grounds keeping, either in private fields or as a maintenance worker in a school district.
4. Must be available for emergency situations.
5. Must demonstrate supervisory ability.
6. Any alternatives to the above as may be acceptable and appropriate.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Ability to lift in excess of 100 pounds.
2. Ability to work at various heights.
3. Ability to work in confined areas.
4. Ability to do reports requested by Buildings and Grounds Supervisor and the foreman.
5. Ability to be aware of the security of the students, staff, and school property.
6. Ability to meet daily attendance requirements.
PERFORMANCE REPONSIBILITIES:
1. Maintains and cares for all school grounds.
2. Responsible for seeding or transplanting beds by cultivating soil and adding fertilizer or chemicals, if needed.
3. Plants flowers, seeds, bulbs, tree seedlings and shrubbery so that resulting growth will produce an attractive appearance.
4. Prunes trees and trims hedges to promote growth and improve appearance.
5. Mows and cares for all lawns.
6. Responsible for the maintenance of sprinkling equipment and water lawns, flower beds and trees.
7. Applies products to treat infected areas.
8. Maintains all outdoor equipment such as lawn mowers, sprinklers, hedge shears, snow blowers, etc.
9. Responsible for all snow removal for the district.
10. Responsible for disposing of yard waste and outdoor waste containers.
11. Repairs and maintains all outdoor seats, chairs, bleachers, etc.
12. Meets with the foremen to coordinate all events or contests on a weekly basis.
13. Oversees to insure safe, clean and efficient operation of tools and equipment.
14. Recommends to the foremen or the Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds any needed repairs or replacements required.
15. Responsible for the marking and proper layout of all athletic fields and tracks.
16. Cleans and maintains the tennis courts.
17. Responsible for the safe operation of all vehicles and special equipment owned by the district.
18. Recommends supplies and equipment for purchase and maintains the inventory of district owned hand tools, equipment, hardware, materials, and supplies directly related to his usage.
19. Performs additional duties as assigned by the Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds and/or the day foreman.
Terms of Employment: Twelve-Month year. Salary and work year to be established by the Board of Education.
