Job Summary
Develop and provide direct services, technical assistance, and/or professional development in the areas of school improvement and interventions.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Certification
Bachelor's degree in Education required. Master's degree preferred. Teaching certification required.
Special Knowledge/Skills
Individual skills require a minimum of one of the following areas: Ability to develop, coordinate, and deliver professional development to adult learners; Knowledge in state and federal programs; Leadership skills including organizational, communication, public relations, technology, and interpersonal skills.
Experience
Three years of classroom teaching experience required; Professional development experience preferred; Knowledge of a variety of teaching methods, techniques and intervention strategies; Specific experience with campus planning, special programs, school improvement and working with students in at risk situations.
ESC RESPONSIBILITIES / INTERNAL OPERATIONS
1. Actively participates in activities designed to achieve the Region 9 Mission to improve student performance.
2. Works as a team member demonstrating flexibility, assisting other programs'/departments' staff members, and lending support to other ESC staff.
3. During contacts with staff members, district personnel, and other agency personnel, speak positively about the ESC organization, the individual staff members, and district personnel.
4. Accepts responsibility for personal professional growth and review of current professional literature.
5. Functions within the policies and administrative procedures of Region 9 ESC.
6. Performs duties as assigned to ensure the effective operation of the ESC and accomplishment of the mission.
7. Ensures that the quality (neat, accurate, & thorough) and quantity (amount of work during a given amount of time) of work meets expectations necessary to fulfill the ESC Mission.
8. Demonstrates dependability and drive in completing work assignments without close supervision.
9. Commits to high attendance and exhibits punctuality.
10. Maintain appropriate records and correspondence.
11. Assist in evaluation of program effectiveness.
12. Coordinate with other ESC Departments/Services.
TECHNICAL SUPPORT
1. Determine technical assistance and training needs through classroom visitation, interviews, contact with district personnel and other formal needs assessment methods.
2. Assist in identifying the needs of all campuses, with an emphasis on targeted/high priority campuses and districts/campuses not meeting federal and state standards using all available data resources.
3. Provide technical assistance in district/campus improvement planning and federal planning requirements including the ten components of Title I.
4. Provide technical assistance to districts in program planning and design for effective differentiated instruction to ensure that all students can meet high standards.
5. Provide technical assistance for state and federal programs in application, program improvement and program compliance.
PROFESSIONAL / ORGANIZATIONAL DEVELOPMENT
1. Develop, conduct, and/or coordinate professional development in effective teaching practices, effective implementation of the TEKS, Response to Intervention and classroom management.
2. Develop, conduct, and/or coordinate professional development in alternative teaching models and strategies for modifying instruction to meet individual needs of diverse learners.
3. Design and produce professional development modules and related materials based upon established campus/district needs.
4. Provide professional development related to school improvement, response to intervention, School Support Teams, special programs, program compliance, AYP, state accountability, and other related topics as required by districts/campuses.
5. Provide professional development in effective teaching practices targeting students most in need of assistance.
6. Develop, conduct, and/or coordinate professional development in district/campus improvement planning & federal planning requirements including the 10 components of Title I.
Equipment Used
Computer, distance learning technology, podcasting and other office/training equipment as required.
Working Conditions
Mental Demands
Ability to work without close supervision and exercise professional competency, discipline, and integrity; maintain flexibility to manage multiple tasks while meeting critical timelines.
Physical Demands / Environmental Factors
Frequent regional and overnight statewide travel; occasional prolonged or irregular hours; light to moderate lifting/carrying of equipment and materials.
