Our Story
General ASP was conceived in 1998 at a dining room table in the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois, by a young man who aspired to work for himself. On the other end of the table was the Assistant Superintendent of a local school district who worked with the young man's father, also an Assistant Superintendent. After hearing the lengths to which school administrators went to hire excellent people for their school district...the epiphany occurred.
Abe Reese, the young man in this story and President of General ASP, developed a piece of software that would soon transform the daunting task of sifting, sorting, and collecting employment applications. While designing this software, Abe refused to compromise on three elements: ease of use, intuitiveness, and flexibility.
Upon presenting this piece of software, which would become the earliest version of AppliTrack, to Dr. Marvin Feinberg, the Assistant Superintendent at that dining room table (and current National Sales Manager for General ASP), it was immediately put into use in his district. The result- a transformed hiring process that possessed all of the elements that Abe required...and more.
Fast forward ten years: Over 1,100 school districts, dozens of park and recreation districts, municipalities, and businesses, 2.2 million applicants, and thousands of AppliTrack users are reaping the benefits of the discussion held around that dining room table in 1998.
Why We Exist: The General ASP Purpose and Vision
General ASP exists to make world-class technologies that help organizations focus on people, not process.
General ASP is dedicated to helping organizations obtain economical, high-value, software systems that enable a single person to help and work with many people at a time while still maintaining a human touch. All of our systems are web-based and come with lifetime service agreements.
General ASP will be a leader in software-as-a-service systems for school districts, park districts, municipalities and corporations.
How We Serve the World: Our Mission
The mission of General ASP is to create evolutionary software that works the way people expect it to work. We take formerly manual, often paper-heavy functions into the modern age in small steps. We start by creating solutions that address big pain points, for example the collection and filing of employment applications, and then incrementally build in additional functions as we, along with our customers, discover the need -and gain the courage- to change.
We depend on our customers and want our customers to know that they can depend on us. Nothing is more important to us than outstanding customer service. We serve each customer individually, holding ourselves accountable for 100% satisfaction. Even when we achieve this, we won’t let that get in the way of improvement. We measure our performance in all departments and strive for absolute efficiency.
General ASP reaches for excellence for our users through superior software design, smart and courteous sales and marketing, and by leveraging the talent of the people behind our company.
Who We Are
General ASP is a company that anticipates industry trends and develops technologies before they exist in an effort to offer a proactive approach to software design that exceeds the standards of our users before the previous standard has been set.
General ASP is composed of helpful, jovial, professional, intelligent and courteous individuals. We are experts in our field and make complicated things seem easy. We measure our success by the success of our customers and work until the job is done. We’re ethical, always taking the high road and remaining fair and honest in all of our dealings. Customer service and advocacy are what we're best at and we depend on our customers to help us grow.
What We Believe In
General ASP values proficiency, innovation, productivity, responsiveness, progress, efficiency, and fun. It is our expectation that our values are reflected in each interaction with our people and our software.
By executing our mission with an eye toward fiscal responsibility, we ensure continued success for both ourselves and our customers. We maintain fiscal responsibility internally in order to reduce costs to our customers for we believe that if a customer is not receiving a huge Return on the Investment, they will look elsewhere for service. We welcome and thrive within a competitive environment because we believe that competition promotes fiscal responsibility in all organizations, including our customers’.
* We believe that software is free; it is people that cost money. We should not profit from work that has already been billed to another customer or from mass training or educational sessions. Instead, our service fees are related directly to people-time. We believe that our customers benefit from this concept because we do not require fee-based training, implementation or support time. We believe that most of our customers have the capacity to train and implement our systems themselves, and therefore, because we are not spending people-time, our services fees are lower.
* We believe that we have one chance to make an impression with a customer. If a system or function seems difficult or confusing, we believe that customers will not return to try it again.
* We believe that we must anticipate our customer's needs and build in the flexibility they need to insure a good fit with their unique processes. We make sure our systems come pre-loaded with typical settings and forms so our customers have the option to take the defaults or to fully customize.
* And finally, we believe that beautiful things are easy to use – including our software.
Our beliefs provide the foundation for how we operate as a company and are shared by everyone within it.
