Your Team
MAG’s IT Software Development group creates and supports software that helps MAG and its member agencies carry out their mission. The team handles everything from planning and building new applications to maintaining and improving existing ones. Along with custom development, they support key systems like the ERP, GIS, database, and website CMS. The group also provides technical guidance for software projects developed by outside partners and other technological efforts across the organization.
The Position
The Senior Software Developer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining high-quality software solutions that meet the organization’s goals and objectives. As a technical leader, you will create technical specifications, troubleshoot end user issues and provide assistance, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and drive the adoption of best practices in software development.
Key responsibilities include:
Designs, codes, tests, and maintains custom software systems by collaborating with various stakeholders to develop high-quality software solutions that meet or exceed customer expectations.
Develops and maintains databases and software applications.
Performs project planning for software development requirements. Identifies technical approach and operational feasibility.
Facilities collaborative code development and peer review.
Serves as a trusted technical advisor to stakeholders, delivering timely, strategic guidance and support on complex technical issues.
Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve issues with both custom developed and supported applications.
Leads discussions with stakeholders to proactively shape and refine business needs and expectations and to define the specifications of features and enhancements to custom software, ensuring their feasibility and seamless integration with existing architecture.
Develops technical documentation to guide future software development projects
The Candidate
The ideal candidate brings a strong background in software design and development, with hands-on experience across the full development life cycle. They demonstrate excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, a commitment to writing clean and maintainable code, and a proactive approach to improving systems and processes. They are detail-oriented, highly organized, and comfortable working both independently and as part of a collaborative team, including mentoring junior software developers. MAG’s Transportation Division provides strategic direction and technical expertise to guide regional mobility and infrastructure development. The team serves as a hub for data analysis, policy planning, and coordination with member agencies and stakeholders. It supports long-range planning efforts, aligns transportation investments with regional priorities, and ensures compliance with federal and state requirements.
The Position
MAG is seeking an
experienced planner or communications professional to lead public and stakeholder engagement activities
to support the Transportation Division. Main responsibilities include:
Citizen involvement and participation skills and techniques relative to program planning and evaluation. Develop and implement community and stakeholder engagement plans, methods, and tools for a variety of local and regional planning and policymaking initiatives;
Support public relations efforts by helping to draft press releases, maintain media contact lists, track press coverage, and assist with media outreach;
Develop, publish, and manage content for social media platforms and agencywide or project-based websites;
Assist with developing and/or editing written copy for MAG Transportation Division materials and publications;
Assist with developing and editing presentations and in presenting material to boards, committees, stakeholder organizations, and the general public;
Assist with developing visualizations such as renderings, drawings, maps, and other graphics to help 1) communicate planning concepts to a variety of audiences and 2) translate community and stakeholder input for presentation to policymakers; 3) Prepare written reports and presentations on the findings, key takeaways, and lessons learned from outreach activities;
Participate in industry associations and continuing education opportunities to remain current on emerging and best practices related community engagement;
Work with Transportation Division management to ensure outreach activities stay coordinated across the organization; and
Lead special projects as identified by division leadership team or the executive team.

MAG’s Freeway Engineering Team provides oversight and management for the implementation of the Freeway Life Cycle Program under Propositions 400 and 479. The team plays a key role in the delivery of the program by performing studies, identifying needs, assessing evaluations of transportation infrastructure, and coordinating the delivery of the program with the Arizona Department of Transportation.
The Position

The ideal candidate will be proficient in leading planning level analysis, reviewing engineering and design-specific solutions, and have experience with managing consultants or consultant teams, preferably in a large urban area. The candidate should also have experience presenting complex technical information to a diverse set of stakeholders, including members of the public and policy makers. Experience coordinating with internal and external agency partners and strong writing skills is a plus.

Your Team
MAG’s Transportation Policy and Initiatives team provides oversight of all transportation funding policy efforts and leads other strategic initiatives at the direction of the interim transportation director and executive director. This includes development and management of Proposition 400 and 479 programs, assessing impacts of proposed state and federal transportation policy on the agency and broader region, and other special projects as needed to guide regional mobility and infrastructure development.
The Position
The Principal Planner will be responsible for the management and oversight of the Proposition 479 Transit Life Cycle Program (TLCP), ensuring that regional transit funding is allocated, monitored, and reported in alignment with Maricopa County’s voter-approved plan. This position plays a key role in overseeing long-range transit funding, delivery of the region’s transit capital and operating projects, and program accountability across the region. Reporting to the Transportation Policy & Initiatives Program Manager, the Principal Planner will uphold transparent, data-driven, and fiscally responsible processes in collaboration with regional partners.
Key responsibilities include:
Program Management
Lead the ongoing management of the 20-year TLCP, including both capital and operating components.
Ensure alignment between TLCP allocations, RSTIIP policies, and federal/state funding requirements.
Maintain and update program documentation, timelines, and financial reporting for internal and external use.
Financial Oversight
Monitor and update long-range revenue forecasts and cost estimates for the TLCP, following existing annual and monthly update processes.
Track key financial assumptions, including inflation and cost trends, to support accurate reporting.
Conduct financial analyses to assess trade-offs and inform decision-making and long-range planning.
Stakeholder Coordination
Serve as the primary staff liaison in the implementation of the Prop 479 TLCP with the region’s transit implementing partners, including Valley Metro, the City of Phoenix, and member agencies.
Coordinate with federal and state agencies on funding requirements, compliance, and reporting.
Provide technical assistance to member agencies regarding ongoing management of the Prop 479 TLCP.
Data Management & Reporting
Develop and maintain processes for tracking TLCP expenditures, funding commitments, and performance metrics.
Prepare reports, presentations, and other supporting material for MAG policy committees, the public, and other external stakeholders as needed.
Ensure transparency through consistent, accessible, and timely reporting.
Studies & Project Management
Foster collaboration across all five functions of MAG’s Transportation Division.
Lead and support projects that advance TLCP implementation, including contract and consultant management.
Deliver high-quality work products that are timely, accurate, and aligned with MAG’s standards.
