Position Summary
The Behavior Technician (BT) will operate under the direct supervision of the District Behavior Intervention Specialist (BCBA) as it relates to the identified behavioral needs of students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and 504 plans. The BT will assist with behavior modification of identified students with autism, serious emotional disabilities, and other developmental disabilities in the school setting. The BT will be responsible for providing skills instruction to students using behavior reduction protocols based on principles of Applied Behavior Analysis. The BT will collect data to inform behavior plans, assist with staff training, and assist with Functional Behavior Assessments as needed.
Essential Job Functions
Provide direct student instruction, and assist staff with implementation of behavior plans in one-on-one and group settings, utilizing a combination of intensive teaching and natural environment teaching arrangements.
Follow behavior plans and implement social skills curriculums.
Conduct ABA interventions such as: Discrete Trial Training. Pivotal Response Training, Social Skills Training, and Self-Regulation Teaching
Assist with preparing materials as necessary.
Collect, record and summarize data on observable student behavior.
Assist with skill acquisition and behavioral assessments.
Document interventions, progress data, and session notes.
Assist with staff training of student’s individualized treatment and behavior change protocols, through direct teaching, modeling and fidelity checks.
Immediately report to BCBA any student incidents/variances or complaints.
Communicate with staff regarding student progress as instructed by the BCBA.
Collaborate school teams and attend IEP meetings as necessary.
Perform other duties as assigned by District Behavior Specialist.
Education and/or Experience
Meet eligibility criteria:
be at least 18 years old
have completed high school-level education or equivalent
pass a background check
Obtain or have completed 40 hours of qualified training
Successfully complete or be in the process of completing an RBT initial competency assessment
Apply to become an RBT if not already certified
After passing the exam the RBT must:
receive ongoing supervision by BCBA that meets the RBT supervision, supervisor, and documentation requirements
adhere to the RBT Ethics Code and Self-reporting Requirements
complete an RBT renewal application every year, including an RBT Renewal Competency Assessment and fees, to maintain certification
