Must hold a valid South Dakota Teacher Certification with special education endorsement and evidence of highly qualified status in subject area in accordance with NCLB legislation. 
Works independently and directly with students on IEP's; with parents, staff and administrators and other service delivery personnel in order to meet the needs of children with special needs on IEP's.  Disabilities include cognitive impairment, learning disabled, autism and multiple disabilities.
 
o    The position requires good communication skills, excellent organization with flexibility and excellent writing and grammar skills. 
o    Must be service oriented as a team player and willing to be a resource to both staff and parents.
o    Work well with students, administration and other educational professionals.
o    Work under strict timelines and deadlines and be able to problem solve spontaneously to address significant problems and tasks as they arise.
RESPONSIBLITIES:
o    provide direct, indirect and consultative services for children with special needs on IEP's;
o    work with IEP team members to interpret evaluation results and determine eligibility determine the most appropriate placement and design goals for special education and related services;
o    lead MDT/IEP meetings;  design and write comprehensive IEP's on DDN; explain eligibility, proposed IEP, services, modifications and ESY;
o    maintain all appropriate data and records and monitor, implement and update IEP's annually;
o    work collaboratively with classroom teachers to modify and adapt curriculum to meet a child's needs and to provide resources to assist in meeting student's academic needs;
o    plan and write written lesson plans in line with IEP objectives;
o    participate in both school and special education meetings as well as professional development, parent-requested meetings and district in-services;
o    maintain data to write progress reports and to meet with parents to discuss student progress and ongoing needs;
o    provide a positive and safe learning environment and support students' appropriate behavior choices and social skills;
o    perform appropriate classroom observations of students who are in the evaluation process and write reports
o    maintain accurate classroom inventory and determine need for supplies and appropriate student and classroom resources and materials;
o    test students with modifications and accommodations during state required testing
o    supervise and provide goals and guidance for para-professionals.
