    Organizes, maintains, and improves the guidance, psychological, health, social casework, ESL, block grant and special education services of the district.
    Valid and registered Professional Educator License
    Any administrative endorsement (General Admin, Superintendent, Principal, Director of Special Ed) will qualify.  Director of Special Education endorsement preferred.
    Five years of experience in Special Education.
    Endorsements in two or more areas of Special Education preferred.
    Prior administrative experience preferred
    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
    1. Planning and Organization
    • Coordinates and facilitates District wide Special Services Programs which includes identification, diagnosis, follow up and referral of students eligible for special services.
    • Assists in the revision and evaluation of special services programs.
    • Conducts visits of special education services and programs for clinical supervision purposes.
    2. Management Practices
    • Assures implementation and observance of all board policies and regulations by the school's staff and students.
    • Assists in recruiting, screening, and hiring the special services staff.
    • Assists in pupil transportation schedules and routes for special education bus services.
    • Directs and evaluates all professional and educational support personnel assigned to district operations of the department.
    • Coordinates the budget and requisitions for the special services department.
    • Assures development of federal and state grant applications related to special education services.
    • Establishes effective liaison relationships with the various agencies that may provide specialized or professional help for students and parents.
    • Ensures maintenance of all required records and reports related to Special Services.
    3. Staff Development
    • Orients newly assigned staff members and assists in their development, as appropriate.
    • Appraises staff members regarding their individual performance.
    • Conducts staff meetings related to Special Services.
    • Assists in developing and implementing in-service education programs for staff members.
    4. Student Personnel Services
    • Attends conferences between parents and special services staff members when needed.
    • Collaborates with teachers, parents, principals, and other school personnel in sharing information about students with special needs.
    • Collaborates with building level personnel to develop appropriate placement opportunities for students.
    5. Professional Growth Responsibilities
    • Participates in administrative council meetings and other meetings.
    • Establishes and maintains cordial relationships with local community groups and individuals to foster support for overall district objectives and special services programs.
    • Keeps abreast of changes and developments in the profession by attending professional meetings, reading professional journals, and maintaining a collegial dialog on problems of mutual interest.
    • Keeps the superintendent informed of the department's activities and problems.
    Performs related duties as assigned by the Superintendent in accordance with district policies

    Salary commensurate with experience
