The Inclusion Specialist serves as a member of the Extended School Services team. The position is responsible for the intake, placement and continuous support for students who require additional accommodations and/or support to be successful within the Extended School Services programs. The Inclusion Specialist collaborates with students, families, program staff and district staff to ensure the needs of each student are met. This position is within the Community Education Department and is year round.

WHAT YOU’LL BE WORKING ON:
• Ensure Extended School Services programs maintain compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Section 504 Rehabilitation Act regarding the accommodation of the individuals with identified inclusion need.
• Review and gather registration information to identify situations that need further review of IEP’s, 504 Plans and other clarifying information.
• Create and update individual assessments for each student with identified inclusion needs using data gathered from a variety of resources including students, parents, staff, district staff and others.
• Consult with program and district staff about accommodations, support and behavior management of students.
• Assist Extended School Services Manager with Local Special Needs Levy budget and qualifying logistics as well as tracking of students for state/annual reports.
• Schedule and participate in parent/student meetings in conjunction with appropriate district and program staff to ensure student’s success in program.
• Identify and assist with implementation of action plan to ensure student success.
• Work with program staff, Coordinators and Manager when necessary in recruiting, identifying, hiring and supervising additional adult support needed for students.
• Participate in program as additional support for student if needed or fill in when subs are not available.
• Identify, train, support and mentor program staff in inclusion needs, matters and positive behavior support.
• Maintain proper documentation of support needed in Extended School Services for each student and ensure appropriate information and individual plans are shared with program staff.
• Visit program sites and observe students with inclusion needs or behavioral issues, as needed.
• Lead trainings with program staff as needed to ensure student success.
• Evaluate each student’s accommodation plan and support as needed.
• Identify practices and procedures and assist in the development of improvement plans that are consistent with district and department guidelines, program goals and health recommendations.
• Meet regularly with and serve as liaison with Lakeville Area Schools Special Education Department as well as Intermediate School District #917.
• Establish relationships with other resources and organizations to maintain cutting edge knowledge of the field.
• Identify needed supplies and /or equipment to enhance program delivery for students with special needs.
• Attend department meetings, district meetings and PLCs.
• Attend professional development opportunities and stay up to date with current trends.
• Ability to communicate clearly and sensitively to parents, staff and students concerning policy, mission and procedure, both written and orally.
• Ability to exercise good judgement and discretion, especially with high regards to sensitive or confidential information.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to focus on task on hand and possess excellent attention to detail.
• Must work well as part of team and individually.
• Ability to work non-traditional hours when required which include before school, after school and non-school days.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Extended School Services Manager.
 
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
• Bachelor Degree in Special Education, Behavior Analysis or related field.
• Three or more years experience working with individuals with special needs. Previous experience working with school-age children with special needs preferred.
• Ability to maintain a positive, collaborative culture when supporting individuals with physical, developmental, medical or behavioral special needs.
• Knowledge of developmentally appropriate activities of children.
• Current CPR and First Aid certification.

Water Safety Instructor Aides are not certified Water Safety Instructors, rather they work under the direct supervision of the Water Safety Instructor who is teaching the course. Although instructor aides can provide additional attention and supervision to participants, they are not substitutes for Water Safety Instructors nor Lifeguards. Water Safety Instructor Aides should be able to:
• Demonstrate the skills being taught
• Assist participants under the direction of the Water Safety Instructor
• Recognize unsafe conditions and behaviors and respond by either addressing or reporting situations to the Water Safety instructor or the program administrator.
• Help with clerical, supervisory and maintenance responsibilities.
• Complete attendance as needed
•  Lead warm up and other activities under supervision of instructor
• Assist with set up of class equipment on a daily basis as needed
• Assist with evaluating students at the end of each session to recommend advancement
• Follow all aquatic safety procedures and notify supervisor of any safety concerns
• Complete all training and in-services required
When instructor aides are used effectively, Water Safety instructors can focus more on the instructional aspects of the classes. Water Safety instructor aide candidates must be mature and responsible. Instructor aide candidates may be individuals who:
• Do not meet the age requirement or are too inexperienced to become instructors.
• Have expressed an interest in becoming instructors but want or need experience.
• Want to help with a course without actually being an instructor.
• Are preculded from completeing an instructor course by lack of qualifying credential (for example, course prerequisites or state regulations).   Instructor aide training may be completed through a formal instructor aide course or through an apprenticeship program.

Position Qualifications:
• Current Red Cross Water Safety Assistant (WSA) certificate.
• Must be at least 14 years old
• Previous experience with swimming desired
• Ability to assist students in the water
• Ability to communicate effectively with parents, students, co-workers and supervisor
• Ability to follow directions and follow through on tasks.

Schedule: 
• 3-5 hours per day
• 3-10 hours per week Monday, Thursday and Saturday

• Clean pool area between lessons and at the end of the lessons for the day. Return all supplies to the proper storage area.
• Follow all aquatics staff policies set forth by ISD #194.
• Be a positive role model for students by wearing appropriate attire when teaching.
• Be knowledgeable of all accident and emergency procedures, participate in emergency situations as needed.
• Complete accident reports and other forms as needed.
• Participate in-services as coordinated by the Aquatic Coordinator.
