Middle School Principal
Scope of Work:
The teacher’s primary responsibility is to ensure the success of each student as detailed in the ISK Mission, Vision and Aims. Teaching responsibilities may include working with students in the learning support class and regular classroom setting. Additionally the teacher will be expected to participate in a variety of collaborative teams and committees; fulfil supervision duties as assigned, including some evening and weekend events; and supervise/coach one co-curricular activity in the course of the year.
Collaborate with colleagues in applying the ISK Educational Aims to all aspects of schooling.
Work with the Student Support Services (SSS) Coordinator to insure the implementation of the school-wide program as outlined in the SSS manual.
Develop and monitor Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for students based on testing results, teacher input and observations.
Monitor and support Response to Intervention (RTI) plans for specific students not on IEPs.
Provide appropriate support for students through in-class, learning support classes, consultation, and monitoring.
Understand and conduct ongoing assessment of student progress of IEP goals. Use assessment data to inform planning and instruction, and reflect on instructional techniques accordingly.
Collaborate with middle school teachers to support students in mainstream classes.
Differentiate instruction to address preferred learning styles and the needs and readiness levels of various students in class.
Integrate technology within lessons to enhance instructional delivery.
Be available to assist students outside of class time.
Communicate regularly with parents through email, telephone, SSTs, and parent-teacher conferences.
Attend and participate actively in relevant departmental, divisional and K-12 professional meetings.
Participate on faculty committees and curriculum development programs as required.
Promote a positive learning and teaching environment.
Assume responsibility for meaningful professional growth, including remaining current and informed regarding educational research and best practices.
Possibly participate in and supervise an annual weeklong intercultural trip.
Perform other duties as may be reasonably assigned by the Principal.
Required Qualifications, Skills and Qualities:
Bachelor’s Degree in relevant subject(s) (Special Education)
Understanding of learning differences and behavior-based differences and effective research-based interventions.
Ability to interpret results of educational psychological reports
Student-centered and nurturing personality
Commitment to collaborative planning
Teacher certification in relevant field from an accredited university/college
Minimum 2 years relevant teaching experience
Proficiency with educational technology
Fluent English speaker with excellent writing skills
Flexibility and creativity
Preferred Qualifications, Skills and Qualities:
Master’s Degree in relevant field
Understanding of and experience with standards-based curriculum, assessment and reporting
Experience with a backwards planning, “backwards by design,” or Understanding by Design planning model
Teaching experience in a multicultural setting
Relevant teaching experience in middle school
Demonstrated success in connecting learning to real–world problems
Demonstrated commitment to interdisciplinary instruction
Demonstrated success with constructivist teaching methods
Experience in data analysis and goal setting to improve learning
