SUMMARY: Performs custodial services at assigned site to ensure an attractive, sanitary, safe, and secure environment for students, staff, and visitors. Duties include cleaning, preparing, inspecting, and maintaining facilities and grounds; monitoring building systems; and responding to immediate safety and/or operational concerns.
Split-shift Custodian: the job responsibilities are the same but will be performed at multiple sites in a working day. All core functions of the job will be listed as below. Sites will be determined by the Custodial Supervisors.
Substitute Custodian: All duties will be a listed below. The designated working site will be determined as needed by the Custodial Supervisor.

Cleans and inspects assigned facilities and grounds, including classrooms, offices, gyms, restrooms, multipurpose rooms, grounds, etc., to maintain a sanitary, safe, and attractive educational environment. Uses proper personnel protective equipment as deemed necessary by the product manufacturer. Replenishes daily use classroom and rest room supplies, such as paper towels, soap, etc.

2. Consults with administrative personnel to plan, prioritize, and schedule custodial staff for daily activities and special events. Responds to inquiries from staff, students, parents, and/or visitors and takes appropriate action. Monitors students and staff in and around work areas to prevent injuries and ensure site safety.

3. Monitors building systems and responds to immediate safety and/or operational concerns during and after standard hours. Duties include checking boilers to ensure they are working in a safe manner, identifying/reporting facility damage and vandalism, monitoring and responding to alarms, etc. Takes appropriate action, notifies appropriate personnel for resolution, and supports site maintenance staff as needed.
4. Prepares the school and/or grounds for activities and special events, including setting up chairs, stages, backdrops, bleachers, etc.
5. Performs minor, job-related maintenance on custodial equipment, classroom furniture, and fixtures (e.g., change vacuum belts, vacuum bags, replace light bulbs, repair minor plumbing problems, etc.). Transports required tools, equipment, supplies, and materials to the required site within the building/grounds.
6. Prepares site for daily operations, including opening gates, raising flags, sweeping walkways, etc. and removing snow from main entries, steps, doorways and entry sidewalks.

7. Performs daily perimeter checks of facilities and grounds, including securing doors, windows, and gates; activating/deactivating alarm systems; turning on/off lights; etc.
8. Assists with ordering custodial supplies and maintaining equipment. Delivers supplies, equipment, mail, packages, furniture, etc. to appropriate parties and/or storage locations within the building.
9. Assists with training; planning, assigning, and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving problems; and providing input into performance appraisals of Sub Custodians and Student Sweepers.
10. Participates in meetings, workshops, trainings, and seminars to gather and convey information required to perform job functions.
