The job of Library Clerk was established for the purpose/s of assisting the library media specialist with instructional and non-instructional activities for students, staff and parents. Responsibilities include overseeing circulation systems; processing books, periodicals, materials, and equipment; supporting special events and assisting with the overall operation of the library.
This job reports to Library Media Specialist Essential Functions
•Assists students, staff, and parents with a variety of activities (e.g. reads to students, instructs students in library operations and materials, locates requested materials, places holds on requested items, etc.) for the purpose of providing services to library clients. •Confers with Library Media Specialist for the purpose of coordinating activities and ensuring the effective and efficient operation of thework unit. •Coordinates interlibrary loans (ILLs) (e.g. responds to Destiny or e-mailed requests from teachers and Library Specialists throughout the District, keeps good records of requests, delivers ILL materials to staff, etc.) for the purpose of providing support and materials for District staff. •Maintains a variety of documents, files, and records (e.g. up-to-date student and staff Destiny profiles; student and staff overdue lists;data needed for monthly statistical and narrative reports; record of library/conference room usage and equipment usage by non-library staff; classroom check-out reports, TV/Projector Log; etc. ) for the purpose of documenting activities and providing up-to-date, accurate information. •Maintains the physical appearance of the library, display cases, and assigned areas (e.g. shelves books, straightens shelves as needed, sets out books, exchange newspapers, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring a safe, neat, and well-organized library environment. • Monitors student activities for the purpose of maintaining a safe environment conducive to learning. • Participates in team meetings as requested (e.g. in-service training, workshops, etc.) for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information and supporting District goals. •Performs a variety of clerical tasks (e.g. answers telephone, takes and delivers messages, updates and creates Excel/Word documents, conducts annual library inventory, copies and scans items, reconciles inventory reports, operates a variety of office equipment, etc.) for the purpose of supporting the effective and efficient functioning of the work unit. •Performs circulation activities (e.g. turns on/off OPAC library computer system; checks-in and checks-out materials; prepares circulation count, lists of overdue items, receipts for lost or damaged library materials; assists clients in locating materials;etc.) for the purpose of controlling the use, location and availability of items in the collection. •Prepares items for deprocessing (e.g. compiles list of barcodes, informs research staff of eliminated items, removes any District identifying marks, offers deprocessed items to building staff, sends remaining items to the warehouse, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining a high quality collection. •Prepares manual and electronic documents and reports (e.g. weekly media center schedule, collection statistics, renewal information,overdue lists, bank deposits, requested bibliographies, etc.) for the purpose of providing documentation and information to others. •Processes library books, periodicals, software and related media materials (e.g. enters into Destiny files; stamps with school stamp,barcodes, puts on spine labels and mylar covers; laminates paperback books; shelves materials; dates magazines; labels award nominee books and special collection books; etc.) for the purpose of providing students and staff with with a wide-variety of materials. • Repairs and cleans books and materials for the purpose of ensuring the availability of a high quality library inventory. •Responds to inquiries of students, staff, parents (e.g. availability of books, finding appropriate reference documents, status of overdue fines, use of Destiny automation system, etc.) for the purpose of providing information and/or direction as required. •Schedules, trains, and supervises student and adult library volunteers for the purpose of ensuring library procedures and policies are maintained by volunteer assistants. •Supports a variety of library programs and events (e.g. two book fairs, author visits, Birthday Book Club, Friends of the Library, etc.) for the purpose of enhancing the activities provided through the library.
• Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
