QUALIFICATIONS: As established by the Office of Educator Licensure and Ohio Department of Education.
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
JOB GOAL: The guidance counselor is responsible for academic, general counseling, and maintenance of referral information to provide guidance for students/families, for planning, developing, implementing, evaluating, and revising the guidance program with a focus on academic success; and for participation in student, parent, staff, and community relations.
ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Within the approved limits of Board policy as defined by the principal, the guidance counselor shall:
Participate in assessing student social, emotional, and academic needs, setting goals to meet those needs, and planning activities to reach those goals, and conducting a guidance program to implement those activities. This includes participation in the RtI process and the PBIS team.
Provide a planned sequence of guidance activities focused on academic progress and achievement.
Provide information and recommendations for students' educational placement, and, in consultation with other professional staff, make health, psychological and legal referrals.
Organize the elementary school’s standardized testing programs, including organization of the programs, test administration, interpretation and evaluation of results to the staff and community, and public information regarding the purpose and use of tests in the district.
Participate in the formulation, implementation, evaluation, and revision of the district's comprehensive guidance service plan.
Refer families and students with personal problems related to their adjustment to school, including but not limited to, substance abuse, child abuse, sexual abuse, difficulties with interpersonal relations, low self-esteem, and intolerance of the differences of others; to the appropriate agencies.
Cooperate with community and governmental agencies who provide services in providing guidance, discipline or assistance needed by students who seek them or who are referred.
Provide student assessment and evaluation services affecting enrollment in school or grade level, and conduct orientation activities for new students.
Maintain necessary student records and insure their protection and confidentiality, and make reports as required by law, to the building principal, or the Superintendent or designee.
Work with students and their parents to develop each individual student's educational program to insure it meets educational requirements at the elementary level.
Participate in intervention and special education meetings and planning for individual students, including, but not limited to, MFE’s, IEP’s, and 504 plans. Further, to carry-out the counselor’s area of responsibility in each respective plan.
Attends and represents the school district at all required, necessary or assigned meetings.
Coordinate the filing of all related student information for EMIS.
Oversee the general operation of the guidance office (center), including; assigning clerical work to non-teaching employees, directing volunteers, planning a budget and supplies, ordering tests and other needed materials, supervising students in the area, and maintaining the organization of the office.
Perform all other duties related to the position as assigned by the building principal or the Superintendent or designee.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary, work year, and terms and conditions of employment to be determined by the Cardinal Local Board of Education in accordance with the Ohio Revised Code and the current Negotiated Agreement.
