Job Description The Director of Building and Grounds is responsible for developing, planning, organizing and directing the general maintenance, repair and alteration of the school and grounds; oversee the design, planning and developing of facilities and new construction, ensuring that jobs are completed efficiently and within regulatory guidelines and projected deadlines; preparing and managing the annual budgets for the maintenance, grounds and custodial departments; and ensuring the optimal Grounds has supervisory responsibility over the other custodians including seasonal custodial employees, but will evaluate these employees with the administration. Safety, cleanliness and continued efficiency of operation shall be a major goal at all times.
Salary Regionally competitive with Board paid family insurance and IMRF.
Work Hours Salary employee, with additional evening and weekend commitments. On call for after hour facility emergencies, snow removal, contractor coordination or Superintendent requests.
General Duties and Responsibilities
Provide district-wide leadership in building operations, safety compliance and maintenance standards.
Collaborates and effectively communicate with internal and external personnel (e.g., other administrators, staff, public agencies, community groups, etc.) for the purpose of coordinating activities and programs, resolving issues, and exchanging information concerning assigned functions and related matters.
Inspects new construction, repair work, grounds, special projects, equipment, work orders, daily maintenance and supplies for the purpose of ensuring that projects are completed efficiently.
Manages assigned program and/or department responsibilities (e.g. site improvement, grounds, ADA access, fire inspections, safety, etc.) for the purpose of achieving outcomes in relation to organization objectives and ensuring conformance with legal, financial, and district requirements.
Performs personnel administrative functions (e.g. interviewing, selecting, evaluation, supervising, training, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining adequate staffing, enhancing productivity of personnel and achieving objectives within budget.
Prepares a wide variety of written materials (e.g. Board agenda items and briefings, contracts for professional services, budgets, contract changes, requests for proposals, a variety of narrative and statistical reports related to constructions, maintenance, and modernization of facilities) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, seeking input, and/or conveying information.
Presents information at various meetings for the purpose of communicating information, gaining feedback and ensuring adherence to established internal controls.
Researches new products, laws, regulations, etc. for the purpose of recommending purchases, contracts, and maintaining district wide services.
Responds to a wide variety of inquiries from staff, district personnel, other community agencies, etc. for the purpose of resolving problems, providing information and/or referring to appropriate personnel.
Manage and appropriately assign facilities related tasks collected through the internal ticketing system.
Supports the Superintendent in providing technical expertise, information regarding assigned functions for the purpose of formulating and developing policies, procedures, and programs that address the district’s needs.
Inspects facilities for the purpose of ensuring that the site is suitable for safe operations, maintained in an attractive and clean condition, identifying necessary repairs to facilities and/or equipment, etc.
Maintains supplies and equipment (e.g. cleaning solutions, paper products, vacuums, mops, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of custodial items required to properly maintain facilities and keeps safe and organized storage and work areas at all times.
Participates in meetings, workshops, trainings, and seminars for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform job functions, to include West 40 Buildings and Grounds meetings.
Performs maintenance building repairs (e.g. electrical, plumbing, carpentry, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining a safe and attractive building.
Prepares written materials (e.g. supply requisitions, safety inspections, work orders, inventory records, time sheets, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities and/or relating activities to administration for action.
Responds to immediate safety and/or operational concerns (e.g. facility damage, vandalism, alarms, etc.) for the purpose of taking appropriate action or notifying appropriate personnel for resolution.
Secures facilities and grounds (e.g. doors, gates, alarms, lights, etc.) for the purpose of minimizing property damage, equipment loss and/or potential liability.
Trains assigned personnel (e.g. new custodians, student helpers, etc.) for the purpose of developing professional trade and safety awareness skills.
Set up and break down for school/district functions.
Present price comparisons and specifications of needed custodial supplies.
Make weekly inspections of all buildings and grounds.
Maintain necessary records as required.
Understands and implements safety procedures as required by the district.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee frequently must squat, stoop or kneel, reach about the head and reach forward. The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools and climbs onto ladders. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk more than the average person while performing the duties of this job.
The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds such as cleaning supplies, pails and unloading trucks. Occasionally the employee will lift and/or move up to 100 pounds such as salt and bulk furniture. The employee will sometimes push/pull items such as tables, bleachers, scrubbing machines. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Qualifications:
1. Valid Illinois State Board of Education Professional Educator’s License
2. ESL Endorsement
3. Ukrainian Bilingual Approval/or Conditionally Approved
4. Willingness to sponsor and/or participate in extra-curricular activities.
General Duties and Responsibilities:
Instruct students in English/Language Arts/Math/Science/Social Studies and other related school subject areas (such as social emotional learning) using best practice ESL/bilingual strategies.
Analyze student data to inform instructional goals.
Plan and collaborate with teachers.
Aligns instruction and practice to the WIDA Standards.
Integrate technology into lessons.
Confers with students, parents, and school personnel to resolve student problems.
Chair of the Bilingual Parent Advisory Committee.
Communicates student progress with parents.
Responsible for eligibility screening and state testing.
Collaborates with administration on data input for the student information system.
