In collaboration with school staff and under the guidance of the building principal and Director of Pupil Services, the Substitute School Nurse provides essential healthcare services to support the immediate health and safety needs of students and staff.
The substitute nurse ensures continuity of care by addressing daily health concerns, administering medications and treatments as prescribed, and responding to health-related emergencies. This role requires adherence to state laws, local board policies, and school procedures related to health services.
While serving in this temporary capacity, the substitute nurse acts as a health advocate for students, promoting a safe and supportive school environment during the regular nurse’s absence.
Responsibilities of the Substitute School Nurse
Provides school nursing services in alignment with state laws, district policies, and standing orders.
Administers first aid and emergency care in accordance with standing orders.
Collects and documents relevant health information presented during the assignment, including immunization and medication records as needed.
Maintains a daily record of health office visits, treatments, and care provided.
Documents medical incidents, injuries, and accidents occurring at school and notifies appropriate personnel.
Stores and administers medications according to state requirements and board policy.
Communicates with the principal and/or school medical advisor regarding urgent or significant health concerns.
Maintains current emergency plans, information, and forms for students as needed during the assignment.
Supports the health and safety of the school environment by serving as a resource to staff and students.
Performs other related duties as directed by the principal, school medical advisor, or Director of Pupil Services.
Location: Regional School District No. 1 is located in rural Northwest Connecticut and consists of six elementary schools and one regional high school (grades 9-12).
Work Schedule: This is an at-will, on-call position. Substitute nurses are contacted and scheduled as needed to provide coverage for school health services. Here is the school calendar.
Pay Rate: $36.00 per hour.
K-8 Science Teacher: Long-Term Substitute Lee H. Kellogg School - Falls Village, CT The Lee H. Kellogg School is seeking a Long-Term / Interim Science Teacher for grades K–8. This is an extended assignment beginning on or around February 2, 2025, and continuing through the end of the 2025–2026 school year. As an In-House Substitute Teacher, you will play a vital role in maintaining instructional continuity and a positive learning environment when classroom teachers are absent. This position requires flexibility, strong classroom management skills, and the ability to engage students across a range of developmental levels from Pre-K through Grade 8. Essential Functions:

Requirements:
Valid CT Teaching Certificate or a Bachelor’s Degree (college transcripts required)
Successful completion of criminal background and DCF records checks
Participation in Region One Health and Safety Training
Working Conditions: Assignments may take place in any PreK–8 elementary school or a 9–12 high school. Flexibility in location and grade levels is expected.
Salary: $130/day
