    Salary Minimum $45,000 (Depending on school experience) + Stipend

    Primary Purpose:

    Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences to help students develop and improve reading competencies and skills to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, and social growth.  Provide leadership, coordination, collaboration, and innovation in reading curriculum and instruction in accordance with the district transitional early-exit bilingual model.  Serve as an instructional leader in the implementation, monitoring, and improvement of reading interventions. 


    Bachelor’s degree from accredited university
    Valid Texas teaching certificate with Bilingual endorsement or training for subject assigned
    Master reading teacher or reading specialist certificate held, or attainable within two years
    Special Knowledge/Skills:
    Understand the interrelated components of reading
    Choose and administer appropriate reading assessments
       Utilize assessment information to implement reading instruction based on state standards and best practices for literacy
    Understand first and second language acquisition and its impact on reading
    Understand reading difficulties, dyslexia, and reading disorders
    Utilize strategies to ensure research-based reading instruction through communication and collaboration with stakeholders
    Mentor, coach, and provide professional development in the area of bilingual reading
    At least 3 years classroom experience in a bilingual setting

    Major Responsibilities and Duties:


    Instructional Strategies

    1. Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of district’s curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required.
    2. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles.
    3. Present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
    4. Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
    5. Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
    6. Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP) and 504 plans.
    7. Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements. 
    8. Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s).
    9. Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
    Student Growth and Development
    1. Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.
    2. Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
    3. Support campus LPAC activities, to include but not limited to identification and placement of ELLs, monitoring of academic and language progress, RtI for campus ELLs state assessment decision making, and annual review.  Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned.
    4. Monitor transition of newcomer ELLs by providing necessary language acquisition support to students and by collaborating with teachers of ELLs to ensure student mastery of content and language.
    Classroom Management and Organization
    1. Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social and emotional development of students.
    2. Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
    3. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
    4. Assist in selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
    1. Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
    2. Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
    3. Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
    Professional Growth and Development
    21.Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
    22.Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
    23.Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.
    24.Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.

    Tools/Equipment Used: Personal computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment; [P.E. teachers: automated external defibrillator (AED)]
    Posture: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

    Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); may lift and move text books and classroom equipment
