Job Summary: Provide care for children in the Child Development Programs. Plan, implement and assess the learning experiences of each child. Mentor and coach Early Childhood Education students as they practice implementation of knowledge and skills gained in course content.
Essential Functions: Observe, plan, implement, and assess developmentally appropriate, evidence –based daily learning opportunities to meet the needs of children ages birth-5. Practice ongoing assessment of children’s development and learning using a variety of assessment tools. Maintain a healthy and safe learning environment for children in accordance with licensing, accreditation and other standards of best practice. Develop positive relationships with children. Facilitate a positive, inclusive classroom climate for diverse children. Provide written and oral input into the orientation, participation and evaluation of students in the Early Childhood Education program. Serve as a role model for the Early Childhood Education students, provide assistance to the students as they implement skills learned in the coursework, assist students with problem solving and give direction to individual students. Assist students with planning, implementing and evaluation of children’s experiences. Collaborate with center and program staff in designing learning experiences for students. Develop positive relationships with families, staff and community organizations. Partner with families to develop and implement plans for children’s learning. Seek out or respond to community partnerships that enhance the overall functioning of the program. Perform administrative duties to maintain program operations, such as back ground checks, child and staff record keeping, substituting and coordinating ECE student placements. Maintain and model policies, procedures, and standards to assure child care center will meet licensing, accreditation and other standards of best practice. Complete training as required by licensing and accreditation. Participate in ongoing professional development to remain current with standards of best practice in the Early Childhood Education field. Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications: Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development or related. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with diverse students, children, and staff. Ability to make sound decisions in emergency situations. Strong communication skills. Ability to plan, organize and manage time and physical space. Knowledge of current software applications such as Microsoft Office, Creative Curriculum Gold Online. Ability to meet state licensing requirements, including: DCI check, Child Abuse Registry check, medical exam with update every two years, etc. Capability to lift or carry up to 50 lbs. Desirable Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development or related area. Experience working with diverse populations of children ages birth to 5. Knowledge of Project Approach, Positive Behavior Intervention and Support and Program for Infant Toddler Care. Mandatory Child Abuse Reporter Training. Universal Precautions Training. Infant, Child and Adult CPR/First Aid.
