    Job Position Title: Transportation Director 
    Supervisor: Business Manager/Superintendent
    Status:  Salaried, Exempt
     
    Terms of EmploymentSalary/benefits, hours, which may be variable, and the work year to be established by the Superintendent with approval of the Board of Education.
    Salary and benefit package to be determined on applicant qualifications and experience.
     
    Job Goal: To provide safe and efficient transportation for all student needs of the Keokuk Community School District. It is the goal of every position to provide services which will ensure the successful and efficient operations of the Keokuk Community School District.
     
    Qualifications:
    Education/ Certifications/ Requirements

     
    • Have a minimum of a high school diploma, post high school education preferred.
    • Have all required licenses to drive a school bus for KCSD.
    • Be a participant in KCSD's drug and alcohol testing program.
    • Must clear state criminal record check and child abuse checks.
    • Must have an exemplary driving record.
    • Ability to meet deadlines.
    • Ability to positively interact with support staff/district employees and community members.
    • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
    • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
    • Successful applicant will have mechanic's tools adequate to work on the district's vehicles.
    Knowledge/Skills
    • Be proficient in the use of technology and related software.
    • Demonstrate a competency in Word and Excel.
    • Have experience in the supervisory role of personnel.
    • Have a working knowledge of school bus mechanical operations.
    • Have the ability to prioritize and organize tasks.
    • Must have excellent communication skills, oral/written.
    • Able to perform basic mathematical skills, such as addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication to determine weight, volume, and distance.
    • Able to work independently and/or as a team member to complete tasks and meet goals.
    • Able to take direction and respond to requests in a courteous, helpful manner.
    • Problem solving abilities.
    • Demonstrate dependability on the job (punctual, reliable, consistently completes work accurately and according to safety standards).
     
    Responsibilities:
    • Develop the scheduling and routing of buses for regular, preschool and special needs routes.
    • Be knowledgeable of Iowa Code and Federal regulations in school transportation.
    • Assist in the recruitment and selection of regular route drivers, substitute drivers and any personnel whose position is associated with school transportation.
    • Maintain a 5 year school bus replacement program.
    • Draft school bus bid documents or purchase school buses using the Iowa School Bus Bid program.
    • Train all newly hired school bus drivers and provide professional development for transportation department staff as needed.
    • Responsible for school bus, support vehicles, and any other school vehicles and equipment maintenance program.
    • Work with building principals in handling student issues which occur on the school bus.
    • Work with building principals regarding students needing special assignments or transportation care which includes attending IEP meetings.
    • Enforce and update the district's bus conduct and discipline policy.
    • Give recommendation to Superintendent concerning possible school closings, late starts and early dismissals due to weather conditions or other unforeseen circumstances.
    • Need to know and the implement the district's emergency operations plan.
    • Communicate with parents/guardians regarding student issues in transportation.
    • Assume responsibility for the safe operation of school buses and support vehicles.
    • Coordinate bus evacuation drills with building principals.
    • Present to the board of directors any transportation issues on an as needed basis.
    • Oversight of the transportation budget, seeking best value, while monitoring expenses.
    • Supervise the assignment of personnel, field and activity trips on a weekly basis.
    • Complete and maintain the transportation payroll, submitting to the business office on a monthly basis.
    • Have oversight of all regular and special routes. This would include the assignment of students, route safety and efficiency.
    • Respond to all accidents involving district vehicles to ensure student safety and implement emergency plans if necessary.
    • Inform the business manager of issues involving school transportation.
    • Review all expenditures for the transportation department.
    • Administer with the business manager any quotes, bid documents and contractual agreements pertaining to the transportation department.
    • Participate, when needed, on various district committees which may involve school transportation or related services.
    • Supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff: participate in the interview and selection of employees, terminations and/or disciplinary actions of employees.
    • Responsible for vehicle documentation, which will include recommendation for insurance coverage, submission for title, inventory, and vehicle add/delete records.
    • Be an active member of the Iowa Pupil Transportation Association.
    • Other duties as assigned
