Supervises: Assistant coaches, student athletes and student managers/statisticians
1. To provide leadership, supervision and organization of a specific athletic activity and to carry out the objectives and philosophy of the total athletic program.
Formulate objectives for the sport season as it would pertain to player personnel & assistant coaching responsibilities.
Effective communication with students, parents and AD.
Keep abreast of new ideas and techniques by attending clinics and workshops, reading in the field and encouraging assistant coaches to do the same.
Be knowledgeable of rules and regulations concerning his/her sport and changes which occur.
Inventory, selection, care and maintenance of equipment. Include in your end of the season report to AD.
Assist athletic director with proper registration of all athletes at beginning of the season.
Assist athletic director in compiling rosters, statistics & other reports. Include in your end of the season report to AD.
Arrange for systematic issuance of school equipment.
Make sure all athletes have physicals, medical cards, insurance waivers, and concussion waivers before they are able to practice.
Organize, oversee, and conduct all practice sessions with the idea of developing the athlete’s greatest potential.
Creates written practice plans (to be shared with assistant coaches).
Cooperate with other coaches whenever facilities must be shared. Turn in practice times to AD to be placed on the gym usage schedule.
Apply discipline in a firm and positive manner by setting fair, clear team guidelines. Review these expectations at the pre-season parents meeting
See that facility regulations are understood and enforced.
Conduct oneself in an ethical manner during practices and contests.
Cooperate with the various news media in providing publicity materials about the sport and arrange for reporting results of all contests – win or lose
Adhere to the rules and regulations of the district regarding school bus transportation. Turn in all transportation request into the AD for approval.
Lock up facilities at the close of each practice or contest.
Accompany squads to all home and away competitions and see that the traveling squad is well groomed and that its conduct represents the school and community properly
Delegates responsibilities to assistant coaches to enhance the overall program and to develop skill and leadership among the assistants
Hold the assistants accountable for the duties and tasks they are assigned.
Teaches strategies and techniques to assistant coaches to help improve their ability to perform well in their positions.
Exhibits ability to teach fundamentals and game time strategies.
Creates and maintains a safe environment, see that all injuries are cared for in a professional manner including the notification of the player’s parents and doctor, and/or hospital of necessary
Manages the program’s budget with integrity. Follow proper purchase order procedures.
Follow varsity coaches instruction of offense, defense and fundamentals to be taught.
Participates in the district strength and conditioning program. (i.e., helps supervise, positively promotes the program, and implements the program a minimum of 2 days a week)
Recommend additions and/or improvements for the care and maintenance of facilities.
Work cooperatively with athletic director in recommendations for upcoming contest schedules and the purchasing of equipment.
Maintain records of team and individual accomplishments and submit a copy to the athletic director. Include in your end of the season report to AD.
Rate/recommend officials when required.
