  •   Position Title:  Substitute School Nurse
    R.N. with Baccalaureate degree in Nursing
                Current Iowa licensure
    Knowledge of professional standards (Nurse Practice Act) and other statutes
    Previous pediatric nursing, school health nursing, or community health nursing desirable
    Ability to manage various components of coordinated school health program
    Effective oral and written communication skills
    Current Basic Life Support CPR certification
    Reports toBuilding Principal
    Position Goal:  To strengthen the education process for children and youth by assisting them to improve or adapt to their health status
    Interpersonal Skills:

    Performance Skills:
    1. Assesses and manages health related conditions
    2. Works in collaboration with others in the school and surrounding community to improve students’ health status
    3. Develops priorities in identifying and managing student health problems
    4. Manages health office activities
    5. Trains and supervises non-licensed personnel performing health procedures
    6. Provides health education activities that emphasize self care, wellness activities, personal health practices and the appropriate use of health resources
    7. Works with others to minimize environmental risk factors within the school setting
    8. Provides health counseling and guidance to students and their families
    9. Performs duties, as assigned by supervisor.

    Professional Behavior:
    1. Adheres to school and district policy and procedures.
    Terms of Employment:          Wage and work year to be established in accordance with provisions of the Comprehensive Agreement.
    Evaluation:                              Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Comprehensive Agreement.
    Physical Requirements:          Bending, carrying, climbing, travel between job sites, lifting, pushing-pulling, reaching, sitting, standing, and walking
    Working Conditions:               Includes extremes of temperature and humidity.  Hazards include stairs and communicable diseases.
