  •   The Mississippi Bend Area Education Agency is conducting a search for Long-Term Substitute Special Education Teacher for the Behavior School located in DeWitt, Iowa.

    The essential functions are:
    • Takes initiative to develop positive relationships with staff, students, parents, local school districts and community.
    • Uses appropriate inventories and/or tests and interprets results accurately
    • Follows AEA procedures
    • Demonstrates skill in dealing with behavior/emotional problems
    • Provides positive reinforcement for appropriate behaviors demonstrated in the classroom
    • Uses appropriate curriculum and instructional materials
    • Effectively uses audio-visual and assistive technology equipment
    • Prepares schedule and structures the environment to meet the needs of the students
    • Cooperates with local school districts in planning instructional goals, objectives and methods
    • Uses discipline techniques consistently and in a positive manner to encourage student self-control
    • Provides individual and group instruction designed to meet individual needs
    • Uses appropriate supportive personnel, agencies and outside resources
    • Communicates clearly and shares program objectives with personnel, students, local school districts, parents and AEA staff.
    • Reports student’s progress to student’s district of residence in a timely manner
    • Completes necessary AEA and Department of Education reports
    • Conducts ongoing formative assessment to monitor student progress
    • Maintains complete and current records and files them in appropriate location
    • Provides a copy of student’s report to appropriate agencies
    • Reports personal absences or variations in schedule to AEA supervisory personnel
    • Implements new techniques and seeks methods and opportunities to improve program
    • Conducts or assists with in-service education, as requested
    • Keeps professionally current through journals and books and attends professional meetings and conventions
    • Demonstrates flexibility and adaptability in response to unanticipated needs which might occur within the AEA
    • Commands the respect and confidence of colleagues, clients and community through demeanor and professional service
    • Attends AEA Training and workshops, as needed
    • Maintains confidentiality as outlined in federal, state and AEA rules and procedures
      

    Job Requirements

    The successful candidates must have:
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Education.
    • Iowa teaching license. Education Endorsement – Elementary or Secondary/Strategist I or II.
    • Educational background with a strong emphasis in behavior.
