    Rivermont Collegiate is a co-educational, independent school offering an exclusively college preparatory program. Its eight and one-half acre campus is located on a bluff overlooking the Mississippi River in Bettendorf, Iowa. Founded in 1884, Rivermont is the only Preschool through 12th Grade college preparatory, day and boarding school in the Quad Cities.          
    Rivermont Collegiate is searching for Substitute Teachers for the 2018-2019 school year. We are looking for talented and energetic team players to provide care for early childhood, elementary, middle and high school students.  Hours are varied, filling in on an as needed basis, Monday through Friday.
    Substitute Teachers report directly to the Director of Faculty. 
    Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
    • Attendance and punctuality are required to ensure the duties and responsibilities are performed successfully.A normal, full work day is 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
    • A substitute teacher may be employed for a full or one-half day. The substitute will be notified at the time of contract whether the position is for a full or half day.
    • Managing the classroom and provide instructions according to plans as prepared by the teacher.
    • Assisting the teacher with all aspects of the daily routine, including distributing and collecting supplies, keeping attendance records, lunchroom duty, recess, etc.
    • Working with students to help reinforce learning objectives.
    • Providing a classroom environment to promote active learning.
    • Contributes to the delivery of the mission, vision, and values of the school community.
    • Follows community policies and procedures and models positive behavior.
    • Works effectively as a team member and develops professional and productive relationships with colleagues.
    • Understands boundaries and embraces responsibility for the care of students.
    • Promotes a trust-based community by keeping appropriate confidences.
    • Manages time effectively and meets deadlines and commitments.
    • Communicates and responds to all school communications in a timely manner.
    • Demonstrates flexibility and adaptability to change as needed. 
    • Pursues opportunities for professional growth.
    The optimal candidate will have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree.  Iowa or Illinois teaching certification or substitute authorization is preferred.  Additional certifications are required for early childhood substitute teachers and/or aides. 
    A current driver’s license is preferred. A criminal multi-state background check is required and must be successfully completed before employment can begin.
    Substitute teachers must be:
    • Able to communicate effectively with students, parents, faculty, staff, and administrators.
    • Passionate about learning and childcare.
    • Able to solve difficult problems with positivity and kindness.
    • Flexible and have a spirit of adventure—no two days are the same at a school.
