Instructional Support Technician
Iowa Educational Services for the Blind and Visually Impaired has an opening for a full-time Instructional Support Technician. This is a calendar year position (work during the summer) located on the Iowa School for the Deaf campus in Council Bluffs, IA. The position provides technical support for assistive technology, including distribution and inventory tracking.

Primary Function:
Under general supervision supports the work of the consultants by providing information, organization, and distance-based demonstration and training of non-American Printing House for the Blind (APH) instructional technology, equipment, and materials. Arranges for the delivery and return of materials and maintains inventory database. Performs basic maintenance, preparation, troubleshooting, and repair of materials and equipment.
Eligibility Requirements
:
High school graduation or equivalent and two years' experience in a technology related field or occupation, or
any combination of related post high school education and experience that is the equivalent of two years of full-time employment and possession of a driver’s license required. Experience working with individuals with disabilities and/or in a school setting preferred. Knowledge of or willingness to learn braille also preferred.
Wage:
$16.07 per hour. Comprehensive benefit package.
Other Position Details:
Full-time, calendar year appointment (work during the summer). Position is located on the Iowa School for the Deaf campus in Council Bluffs, IA. Position starts as soon as possible. Criminal and other relevant background checks required.

In collaboration with Area Education Agencies (AEAs) and Local Education Agencies (LEAs), and using an itinerant model, the Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) provides appropriate support and/or instruction to students with visual impairments, in their local schools and home settings.
Formulates appropriate educational objective, activities, evaluation, goals, and instruction.
Reports student growth and programs to parents periodically.
Participates as a member of multidisciplinary teams; involved with evaluations; educational planning; development of Individualized Educational Plans (IEP); program implementation. Provides written reports and documentation. May lead IEP meetings.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in education plus experience using a computer and other office equipment required. Candidates must meet State of Iowa teacher licensure requirements with an endorsement in visual impairment by the time of appointment.
Candidates possessing a special education endorsement may also qualify
, but must complete the visual impairment endorsement within three years of appointment (financial assistance available for necessary coursework). Information on Iowa licensing requirements may be found at the Board of Educational Examiners webpage:
