    Position Purpose              To use leadership, supervisory, and administrative skills to maintain the school district vehicle fleet in a safe and quality condition, and to provide for the safe and efficient transportation of students enrolled in NCSD.
     
     
    Essential Performance Responsibilities
    • Assumes responsibility for the implementation and observance of all Board policies and Union Contracts by the school’s transportation staff.
    • Establishes and maintains community/school rapport and promotes positive communications between parents, teachers, students and supervised personnel.
    • Works cooperatively with building administration, activity directors, and other staff who direct or are responsible for programs using the transportation facilities and equipment of NCSD.
    • Works with district building principals to maintain student discipline on transportation vehicles.
    • Directs the preparation of bus routes for all students entitled to transportation services.
    • Administers the Pay-for-Ride student transportation program and collects the fees.
    • Makes sure all routes are covered by drivers, which could include the transportation director if necessary.
    • Designs and implements specialized student transportation as needed.
    • Assesses and advises the superintendent with knowledge of road conditions during inclement weather regarding school delays, early dismissals, or school cancellations.
    • Prepares and administers the transportation budget.
    • Prepares all reports required by the district, the Department of Transportation, the Department of Education, as well as any other federal and/or state agency.
    • Ensures compliance with all federal and state laws and regulations related to transportation.
    • Keeps the superintendent informed and makes recommendations concerning the condition of the school’s transportation equipment.
    • Works in conjunction with the Director of Human Resources to recruit, screen, hire, assign, evaluate, and retain or dismiss transportation staff.
    • Develops, conducts, supervises, and maintains performance improvement for all personnel for whom he/she has responsibility.
    • Supervises the preparation and maintenance of all required transportation records and reports.
    • Handles Non-Public Parent Reimbursement requests.
    • Plans and supervises safety, crisis intervention, fire, tornado, and emergency preparedness programs in his/her areas of responsibility.
    • Maintains an inventory and recommends purchase of suitable supplies, tools, and equipment for meeting transportation needs.
    • Assists the District Office in preparation of inventories of property under his/her jurisdiction and provides for the security and accountability of that property.
    • Serves as member of such committees and attends such meetings as directed by the Superintendent or the Executive Director of Administrative Services.
    • Keeps the Executive Director of Administrative Services informed and makes recommendations concerning the school district’s transportation needs.
    • Approves and coordinates all non-school reelated transportation requests with the business office.

    Qualifications Profile
    • High School Diploma
    • Valid Class B Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with passenger and air brake endorsements
    • Valid school bus authorization and medical examiner’s certificate
    • Knowledge and expertise in the basic techniques of evaluation of personnel
    • Five years of successful school transportation experience
    • Demonstrated experience in fiscal management including budgets and contracts; strategic planning and other similar management functions
    • Proficient in Google Suite and able to learn to use customized software
    • Proven competence in routing and scheduling procedures.
    • Experience driving a school bus
     
    Physical Requirements
    The employee must be able to meet physical requirements of the federal and state DOT to be licensed as a school bus driver. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, and hear. Occasional squatting, stooping kneeling, reaching above the hear and forward. The employee will occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounts. The employee will sometimes push/pull items. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
     
    The employee must be able to meet pre-employment physical requirements.
    The employee must be able to work around the following conditions: noise, children, staff.
    The employee must be physically able to climb stairs and lift approximately 50 pounds.
     
    Working Conditions
    While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works indoors and will occasionally work outdoors. The employee will regularly work near moving mechanical buses and equipment. The employee may frequently work around toxic or caustic chemicals such as petroleum products, degreasers, gas fumes, and sprays. The employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions which may include extremes of temperature and humidity and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud and occasionally very loud. By District Board Policy, the district facilities and grounds are to be drug, alcohol, and tobaccoo free zones.
     
    Terms of Employment
    12 month work year. Salary and work year to be established by the Board. Employment subject to provisions of the employee contract, board policy, state and federal law.
     
    Evaluation
    Performance of this job will be evaluated annually, or in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of staff.
     
    FLSA Status
    Exempt.
