SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF WORK
Responsible for instruction and planning and/or adaptation of the education program to enable special education students to benefit from educational experiences.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Organization - The confidence of students should stem from the structure of an orderly atmosphere provided by the teacher. In addition to classroom organization, special education teachers should have organized record-keeping skills.
Intuitive - Some children may find difficulty in properly expressing what they are feeling, due to their communication skill level. They may act out or withdraw because they are feeling confused, frustrated, or even overwhelmed. A special education teacher needs to have intuitive skills to sense underlying issues behind a child’s behavior, along with helping them as situations occur.
Stress Tolerance - Performing well when faced with pressure due to time frame, workload, adversity, disappointment, or opposition. Maintaining a calm atmosphere in the classroom.
Adaptability - A teacher has to be able to maintain order, keep to a schedule, and be flexible as all of these situations may arise. Modeling adaptability is important because children with special needs often need to learn how to adapt to their surroundings based on their disability.
Professionalism - having clear boundaries with employees and clients and displaying professional behavior.

Position: HS Alternative Education / Placement Teacher Person must have a 5-12 Iowa Teaching licensure Prior experience in alternative education and/or At-risk & Special Education positions is preferred but not required. Job Goal: To meet the needs of all students by providing quality individualized instruction for students in an alternative environment that is conducive for students who need other systems, programs, and educational approaches to be successful. We use teacher-developed and purchased self-pace course materials as well as e2020 online. This position is off-campus and will be supported by our MS/HS administration and in collaboration with other core teachers. Performance Responsibilities: e2020 (online courses), Coordinator and facilitator for HS students in Alt Ed, Off-Campus learners, and Tier III plans. Enroll HS students in e2020 (online courses), Design and develop learning stations and learning environments that are also alternative to a typical middle school or high school setting, Teach HS students how to use self-paced instructional materials and provide one-on-one instruction individually or in small groups using the core as a guide, and teach students how to use e2020(online courses), Monitor HS student activity and progress in self-paced and teacher-led instruction as well as using e2020, Facilitate HS student learning of concepts and curriculum in e2020 and with self-paced courses and teacher-led small group lessons, Contact with HS parents of students in Alternative Ed Program or e2020 and update on progres, Work with counselor on courses for enrollment and credits, Work with HS staff on core course development and outcomes/suggested grades, core content teacher advises of the grade from their content areas, consults with other teachers for using instructional strategies in the classroom and implementation, PBIS Tier II team member, Evaluate student achievement and adjust instruction accordingly, Teach a variety of vastly different skills simultaneously. Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students. Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior. Employs a variety of research based instructional techniques to meet the needs of all students. Strives to implement the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals. Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation. Lisbon CSD is seeking a full time high school alternative education teacher for the 2018-2019 school year. Applicants must have a 5-12 Iowa Teaching License. Special Education endorsement preferred, but not required. This position will be off-campus and will be supported by Lisbon administration and in collaboration with other core teachers. This person would enroll students in a self-paced online curriculum program. This person would monitor student progress and ensure implementation of the online curriculum in which students will work towards high school credit completion and graduation.
