Accounting Clerk I - Cash Desk - Accounting Department
Cedar Rapids Community School District
Prepare bank deposits for all District accounts; maintain documentation
Monitor cash balances daily; maintain cash sheet and investment reports
Attend and participate in monthly bank meetings
Prepare journal entries for bank charges, interest, etc.
Daily drive District van to the bank and stop at post office
Prepare change requests; make bank transfers, stop payments
Thoroughly understand Cash Handling Procedures and appropriate use of public funds; and train others in the District.
Coordinate and train building and district staff on General Remittance forms; AppliTrack, book fairs, etc.
Travel/mileage reimbursement reconciliations
Provide support for others within the department as necessary; learn additional job duties to backup accounting staff.
Update and maintain Desk Procedures manual. Adhere to Segregation of Duties outlined in the Accounting Department.
Learn GWAEA accounting system and provide support to others.
Assist Accounting Manager with categorical reports and documentation requirements.
Proficiency in using Microsoft Office software including Word and Excel.
Proficiency in operation of 10-key calculator.
Excellent communication skills both written and oral.
Ability to organize and prioritize work; research problems, and train others.
Ability to work with limited supervision.
Ability to work under pressure with frequent interruptions.
Other duties as assigned.
Secretarial/Clerical Group F
Eight (8) hours per day. Twelve (12) months.
2-year accounting degree or equivalent and accounting experience preferred.
Knowledge of basic accounting principles, governmental accounting principles and cash desk experience preferred.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds 0 to 12 feet and occasionally up to 20 feet, such as curriculum materials, desks, chairs, and boxes. The employee will sometimes push/pull items such as tables and carts. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus while supervising students and working with computers, written materials, reports, assessment data, etc.

The noise level in the work environment is moderately quiet. The position requires the commitment of professional working hours that may require the employee to extend beyond a typical 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. workday. The employee will frequently work in different areas of the building including in/at desks, on or near the floor, standing. The employee will usually work in indoor temperatures.
