    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:             
    High School diploma or equivalent
    Ability to maintain positive discipline and motivate students while having fun
    Ability to communicate effectively and build relationships with students
    Team player with exceptional human relations skills
    Ability to read and implement lesson plans
    Ability to take direction and perform advanced tasks with little supervision
    Exemplary organizational skills
    Ability to carry through multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
    Ability to be flexible with a willingness to learn
    Ability to implement program procedures
                                                               
    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:   
    Certified teacher or degreed professional or minimum two years college experience
    Minimum 2 years classroom/relevant experience working with school-age youth

    JOB GOAL:  
    Provide a safe, secure, and structured instructional environment while implementing positive classroom management techniques  and high-quality, hands-on Before & After School Program educational, recreational, and/or enrichment curriculum.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
    1. Administer quality Before & After School Program while adhering to, and having a firm understanding of, district policy and program procedures, and Iowa Department of Human Services minimum standards.
    2. Communicate program expectations and procedures clearly, effectively, and in a positive manner to students.
    3. Accurately compile and maintain required site documentation.
    4. Successfully implement positive student behavior management techniques, per district PBIS guidelines.
    5. Successfully implement high-quality, hands-on, engaging, and age-appropriate academic-enrichment and recreational curriculum/programs.
    6. Actively participate and engage in activities with students; not just supervise or observe.
    7. Prepare high-quality, hands-on, engaging, and age-appropriate curriculum, when necessary.
    8. Ability to adapt instructional activities to assist and meet the needs of the students.
    9. Establish a positive, supportive, and working relationship with site leader(s) and site staff team.
    10. Develop and maintain an effective level of communication with appropriate personnel, including program and central office staff, and district administrators. 
    11. Maintain confidentiality of student information and records.
    12. Demonstrate responsible control over assigned program resources.  Ensure materials and supplies are available.
    13. Attend work regularly, routinely, and on time.Find approved substitute for absences when necessary.
    14. Monitor Before & After School Program facility maintenance and cleanliness.
    15. Maintain a continuing program of staff development and training, including active participation in required trainings and meetings.  Implement new techniques, as required.
    16. Have, or be able to obtain, current adult and child CPR and First Aid Certification with AED training.
    17. Assist with special event programming, field trips, and guest speakers.Some evening and weekend hours may be required on a limited basis.
    18. Other duties as assigned by the Manager or Site Leader(s).
    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  Bending, carrying, climbing, driving, lifting, pushing-pulling, reaching, sitting, standing, walking.
     
    WORKING CONDITIONS:           
    Includes extremes of temperature and humidity.
    Hazards include stairs and communicable diseases.
     
    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:            
    Salary: $14-$18/hour (Ankeny CSD certified teachers with current district contract: paid per current year’s agreement)
    Employees are provided with paid sick leave per the District/program policies.  No other paid leave is available.
     
    Working Days:
    Attend Professional Development: Staff Orientation – TBD upon hiring
    Attend additional youth development and other employee professional development, as required
    Program Days: August 21, 2017 – June 1, 2018
    • Before School: Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri approximately 6:30 – 7:45 a.m. / Wed approximately 6:30 – 8:45 a.m.
    • After School: Monday – Friday approximately 2:30 – 6:00 p.m.
    • Day camps – scheduled and inclement weather 6:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. – all employees are required to work a portion of camp days, as enrollment requires
     
    Position hours vary and are part-time.  Total weekly hours will not exceed 29.75; exact hours are per individual employment agreement.
     
    Positions are scheduled in 9-week increments.  Length of contract: one, 9-week session with the opportunity to extend the position for additional 9-week sessions throughout the program year, pending satisfactory performance evaluation.
     
    If program student enrollment declines, classes and staff positions may be discontinued mid-session.  In such circumstances, affected employees will receive two weeks advanced notice.  Every effort will be made to transfer employees to alternate program positions.
     
     
    EVALUATION:                                                   
    Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board Policy on Evaluation of Classified Personnel.  These employees are not covered by a collective bargaining agreement.
