The Town of Scarborough Fire Department is seeking applicants for the Call Company. This is skilled firefighting and emergency medical work consisting of combating, extinguishing, and preventing fires. Duties include responding to a wide range of fire suppression and medical emergencies in a community encompassing 54 square miles with a year round population of approximately 20,000, and a population that is significantly higher in the summer months. The department's annual call volume is approximately 4,000 calls for service per year. Work involves training for and participating in duties of protecting life and property through performing firefighting and rescue activities. Work is generally performed as a member of a team. Employees in this class participate in the performance of potentially hazardous tasks under emergency conditions which may require strenuous exertion. Although firefighting and rescue work are the most difficult areas of the position, a significant portion of time is spent training and studying methods and techniques in routine station maintenance, equipment maintenance, and in varied department duties. Specific orders and assignments are given by a superior officer, both in fighting fires and at the fire station. Work performance requires initiative and a thorough understanding of firefighting methods as learned on the job and in training.
Position requirements: Must reside within the Town of Scarborough or in a neighboring community within one (1) mile of the Scarborough town line. Must be at least 18 years of age. Must have a high school diploma, GED, or currently be enrolled in a secondary education program. Must hold and maintain a valid Maine driver's license. Must pass a post-offer comprehensive physical exam as outlined in department's standards. Must exert in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently. The person filling this position must be mature, honest, compassionate, able to work well with others, and willing and able to interact positively with the public. The candidate must be prepared to respond to Fire and EMS calls in all types of weather, day or night. Due to the geography of the community the candidate must be prepared for emergencies on/in the ocean, highways, residential neighborhoods, industrial areas, as well as agricultural settings.

Scarborough Community Services is seeking an innovative Recreation Coordinator to plan, organize, and implement programs and activities for a wide range of age groups and customer needs. This position will assist staff and the department in the development of new programs, facilitate both in-house and contracted programming, input and monitor registrations to assist with communications and marketing, and evaluate programs on an ongoing basis. Work is performed under the supervision of the Recreation & Waterfront Manager, or his/her designee.
REQUIREMENTS OF WORK:
Bachelor’s degree in Recreation or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Considerable knowledge of a variety of recreational activities including traditional and non-traditional and the ability to direct them. Working knowledge of the techniques, rules, and materials and equipment needed for a variety of sports and athletic activities. Ability to lead activities, which may include bending, kneeling, reaching, and repeating various range-of-motion techniques. Knowledge of first aid and safety precautions used in recreation and athletic activities. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other Town and School staff. Ability to work effectively with customers with special needs. Ability to supervise and manage subordinate staff and volunteers. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to work a flexible schedule which may include nights and weekends. Must hold a valid Maine driver’s license.
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
First Aid and CPR certified. Certification as a Recreational Professional (CPRP) through NRPA. Working knowledge of recreation software, such as Rectrac, MyRec, or CivicRec. CDL driver’s license with passenger endorsement; or willingness to obtain a CDL driver’s license within 6 months of hire. Salary range depending on experience: $51,376 - $54,662.

The Town of Scarborough is seeking a part-time Finance Clerk to join the Finance Department Revenue Office. Duties involve friendly customer service to residents and visitors in the office and when answering phones. Responsibilities include processing various property taxes, registering vehicles, including automobiles, trailers, snowmobiles, ATVs, boats and issuing boat launch and beach permits. Work requires handling cash, checks and credit cards; preparing standard forms, reconciling accounts receivable and coding source documents for computer input.
Position Requirements: High School diploma or GED equivalent, general math skills, experience in customer service, handling cash, accounting and account reconciliation. Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Excel and Word is highly desirable. Applicants must be detail orientated and have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Preferred qualifications include: Associate’s Degree in accounting and knowledge of motor vehicle registrations. In lieu of the above, any equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered at the discretion of the Town of Scarborough.
The starting hourly rate for this part-time position is $20 per hour, commensurate with experience. The Town of Scarborough is seeking a full-time Technical Services Project Manager to join our Engineering & Technical Services Department. This position assists in the administrative and technical work related to construction oversight, civil engineering infrastructure design and planning, technical studies and long-term plans, as well as development review. Overall responsibilities for this position include: searching for and administering grant opportunities, overseeing Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and contracts, project development, administering projects from planning study stage to construction completion, facilitating technical assessments and studies, reporting to Federal and State agencies, navigating grant reimbursement protocol, assisting with FEMA recovery projects, and managing new smaller initiatives utilizing in-house staff. In addition, this position requires a high attention to detail; excellent organizational skills; and the ability to communicate clearly in verbal and written formats.
Position Requirements: Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, Construction Management, or similar field of study from an accredited university or college program. An individual who has obtained their E.I. Certification and has 2 years of experience is preferred, however an equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered for this position. General knowledge of the engineering principles and construction practices as they apply to the operation of municipal and private infrastructure, such as transportation and stormwater management. Ability to effectively communicate with a variety of audiences, facilitate large group discussions, ability to prepare written reports, plans, maps, and illustrations and proficiency in personal computer use including word processing, database and spreadsheet software, presentation software, geographic information systems (GIS), and engineering/design software. Must hold a valid driver’s license with an excellent driving record. Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the following knowledge, abilities, and skills may be considered at the discretion of the Town of Scarborough.
