The Town of Scarborough Fire Department is seeking applicants for the Call Company. This is skilled firefighting and emergency medical work consisting of combating, extinguishing, and preventing fires. Duties include responding to a wide range of fire suppression and medical emergencies in a community encompassing 54 square miles with a year round population of approximately 20,000, and a population that is significantly higher in the summer months. The department's annual call volume is approximately 4,000 calls for service per year. Work involves training for and participating in duties of protecting life and property through performing firefighting and rescue activities. Work is generally performed as a member of a team. Employees in this class participate in the performance of potentially hazardous tasks under emergency conditions which may require strenuous exertion. Although firefighting and rescue work are the most difficult areas of the position, a significant portion of time is spent training and studying methods and techniques in routine station maintenance, equipment maintenance, and in varied department duties. Specific orders and assignments are given by a superior officer, both in fighting fires and at the fire station. Work performance requires initiative and a thorough understanding of firefighting methods as learned on the job and in training.
Position requirements: Must reside within the Town of Scarborough or in a neighboring community within one (1) mile of the Scarborough town line. Must be at least 18 years of age. Must have a high school diploma, GED, or currently be enrolled in a secondary education program. Must hold and maintain a valid Maine driver's license. Must pass a post-offer comprehensive physical exam as outlined in department's standards. Must exert in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently. The person filling this position must be mature, honest, compassionate, able to work well with others, and willing and able to interact positively with the public. The candidate must be prepared to respond to Fire and EMS calls in all types of weather, day or night. Due to the geography of the community the candidate must be prepared for emergencies on/in the ocean, highways, residential neighborhoods, industrial areas, as well as agricultural settings.

The Town of Scarborough’s Community Services Department is seeking two seasonal full-time
Park Rangers.
The Park Ranger role is a dynamic seasonal position aimed at contributing to the stewardship and protection of Scarborough's recreational and waterfront parks and facilities. The primary responsibilities include providing excellent customer service and offering general assistance, information, and directions to residents and visitors. Park Rangers play a crucial role in ensuring compliance with regulations and safeguarding our natural resources, to enhance the overall visitor experience.
Essential Functions:
Provides facility visitors with general assistance, directions, and information about Town facilities, recreational programming, and natural resources.
Provides excellent customer service and maintains an excellent rapport with facility visitors.
Promotes enjoyment of Scarborough resources by encouraging voluntary compliance with rules and regulations.
Provides emergency assistance and direct emergency services to the facilities when required, assists in directing traffic, crowd control, and protection of natural resources.
Maintains daily logs and reports on park and waterfront incidents to ensure public contracts are being complied with and facilities are safe and well maintained.
Performs general maintenance to facilities as well as restroom custodial tasks, trash collection, and supply replenishment as needed.
Aids in fee collection and monitoring of parking facilities where applicable.
We are seeking individuals who:
Are available for a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, committing to the entire season from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
Demonstrate an ability to interact with the public in an effective, tactful, and pleasant manner, maintaining a positive attitude even in stressful situations.
Possess strong verbal and written communication skills.
Demonstrate excellent organizational skills and the ability to collect data and prepare reports.
Can lift 50 pounds, walk/hike up to 10 miles daily, and be comfortable with strenuous biking through woods and traffic.
Exhibit adaptability in performing a variety of tasks across different working environments and conditions.
Certifications:
Valid Maine driver’s license and have demonstrated a good driving record.
Current First Aid and CPR certifications (or willingness to obtain).
In lieu of the above, any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the following knowledge, abilities and skills may be considered at the discretion of the Town of Scarborough.
