    Purpose Statement

     

     

     

     

     

    The job of Groundskeeper is done for the purpose/s of providing the school district with a safe and
    attractive environment at the site where assigned by maintaining attractive grounds area/s; protecting
    against erosion; maintaining grounds for assemblies and/or recreational activities (e.g. track, football,
    graduation, etc.); and ensuring assignments are completed in a safe, proper and timely manner.


    Functions
    Cleans areas related to athletic events (e.g. restrooms, parking lots and bleachers, etc.) for the purpose
    of ensuring clean and attractive facilities.

    Collects and disposes of leaves and refuse (e.g. storm drains, litter, etc.) for the purpose of preventing
    flooding and removing hazards.

    Connects sprinkling equipment and waters flower beds and lawn as needed for the purpose of
    evaluating the landscaped areas and sprinkler systems to identify repairs and/or replacement needs in
    providing an attractive campus.

    Maintains all permanent athletic/play field equipment for the purpose of ensuring the availability and
    usability of athletic equipment.

    Marks all athletic fields for appropriate athletic events for the purpose of providing adequate field
    preparation .

    Mows, trims, fertilizes, levels and waters all athletic fields and school grounds for the purpose of
    keeping the areas attractive and ready for all athletic events and/or other recreational

    Performs other tasks as assigned for the purpose of assisting and supporting other personnel in the
    completion of their work activities.

    Performs preventive maintenance and repairs (e.g. athletic and grounds equipment, etc)
    for the purpose of maintaining working equipment and identifying replacement needs.

    Prepares seeding or transplanting beds as necessary (e.g. cultivating soil, adding fertilizer or chemicals)
    for the purpose of identifying repairs and/or replacement needs to maintain seasonal schedule.

    Prunes trees and trims hedges for the purpose of promoting growth and improving appearance.

    Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

     

     

     

    SKILLS are required to perform single, technical tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to
    meet changing job conditions. Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job
    include: operating equipment used in groundskeeping, strong communication skills, ability to maintain
    appropriate interpersonal relations with students, parents, and other staff of the district, ability to
    organize own work.
    KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math; understand written procedures, write routine
    documents, and speak clearly; and understand multi-step written and oral instructions. Specific
    knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes: safety practices and
    procedures
    ABILITY is required to schedule activities; collate data; and consider a variety of factors when using
    equipment. Flexibility is required to work with data utilizing specific, defined processes; and operate
    equipment using a variety of standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with others; work
    with specific, job-related data; and utilize a variety of job-related equipment. In working with
    some problem solving may be required to identify issues and select action plans. Problem solving
    with data may require independent interpretation; and problem solving with equipment is moderate.

    Responsibility
    Responsibilities include: working under direct supervision using standardized procedures; providing
    information and/or advising others; and operating within a defined budget. Utilization of some
    resources from other work units may be required to perform the job's functions. There is some
    opportunity to effect the Organization's services.

     

     

     

    Working
    The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical
    demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; frequent climbing and balancing;
    frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally
    the job requires 5% sitting, 75% walking, and 20% standing. The job is performed under minimal
    temperature variations and a generally hazard free environment.

    Education: High School diploma or equivalent.
    Experience: Job related experience is required.
