Assistant High School Principal

Position Purpose
Under the general supervision of a High School Principal, to assist the Principal in providing leadership and supervision in administering the educational program of a High School in order to promote the educational development and achievement of students in accordance with Board of Education policies, administrative procedures, rules and regulations, and applicable law. To provide leadership in program development and improvement, as well as in professional staff development. To serve as Principal in the absence of the Principal.

Essential Performance Responsibilities:

Assists in the development and administration of school programs consistent with school district goals and objectives.
Provides leadership and direction to staff with regard to the ongoing evaluation and improvement of educational programs, including curricular and extra-curricular activities.
Promotes a school environment that is safe and conducive to individualized instruction, cooperative curriculum development, and student learning.
Prepares class schedules, master schedules, extracurricular activities.
Assists in ensuring that Board policies and procedures are implemented and followed at the school.
Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
Encourages staff to continue to grow professionally and to experiment with new approaches or strategies to teaching.
Supervises departments as assigned.
Assists in coordinating the work of school staff and school district program leaders to develop and implement instructional programs and teaching practices.
Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning, and works with teaching staff to modify instructional methods to fit students' needs, including students with special needs.
Assists in the recruitment and selection of employees, the proper maintenance of employee personnel files, the administration of collective bargaining agreements, corrective action, and other human resource issues.
Involves staff in the evaluation of programs and the planning of new programs.
Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
Ensures that student conduct and attendance conforms with the school's standards and school district policies.
Supervises and evaluates teaching staff and other building employees in accordance with the school district's evaluation plan, and makes recommendations regarding goals, areas needing improvement and continued employment.
Assists in the budgetary and financial affairs of the school consistent with school district policies.

Additional Duties:
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal, Superintendent and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Qualifications Profile:
Certification/License:

CT Certification as an Intermediate Supervisor and Administrator (092).
Teaching Certification in related area (i.e., High School or subject area and grade level).
Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.

Education:

Bachelor's and Masters Degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in School Administration.
Sixth year, doctorate, or other planned program in related field preferred.

Experience:
Extensive successful teaching experience at the High School level, preferably in more than one subject area and grade level.
Successful experience as an administrator in the High School level preferred.

Primary Purpose
Under the direct supervision of the Accounting Manager, assists the Payroll Specialist by performing a variety of assigned tasks and duties related to the successful processing of a bi-weekly payroll. Primary Functions
Manages the Time Clock System (TCS)
Verify the completion of the Time Clock by checking signatures, hours, general ledger account coding and hourly rate.
Enters data from timesheets into the Payroll Database (MUNIS).
Process time and attendance records.
Maintain employee Master File records for payroll.
Provides Benefits Administration
Prepares required reports related to specific duties.
Upholds confidentiality and security of all payroll records.
Provides customer service.

Specific Job Duties
Verify the completion of the TCS and timesheet by checking signatures, hours, general ledger account coding and hourly rate.
Data Entry of hours and upload hours from TCS.
Updating payroll maintenance records from tax withholding forms, direct deposit, etc.
Garnish wages for child support, IRS, etc. Monitors balances and communicates to State Marshal offices any changes of employment, etc.
Administers the 401(A) retirement plan for non-certified employees and communicates all additions, changes or deletions each payday to the vendor. Balances and electronically transfers the balance due to the vendor.
Manages 403(b) plans.
Process and verify hourly employees each payday by verifying and importing the attendance information.
Manages, employee health and dental benefits.
Prepares reports and invoices for billing to Food Service and Tree House for reimbursement to the payroll account.
Notifies and sends employees who are exempt from taxes new tax forms each year to renew their withholding status.
Maintains the MUNIS database for active or inactive employees within the assigned groups.
Processes the final reports and produces the checks for employees/vendors each payday.
Handles complaints or questions regarding employee’s questions, discrepancies.
Serves as primary backup to the Payroll Specialist. Has sole responsibility of successfully processing the payroll in the absences of the Payroll Specialist.
Follows established department procedures and assists in administering new procedures.
Composes a variety of materials (e.g. reports, memos, letters, procedures, manuals, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference and/or conveying information regarding expenses, balances, etc.

General Scope of Responsibility:

Relationship Within the School Organization:

School Nurses shall be available for the specific responsibilities listed below and such duties as shall be assigned by the Director of Pupil and Special Education;

Specific Responsibilities:

To assist the Head Nurse, administration, and school physician in carrying out the health services program.
To provide health service to students in the assigned school units.
To carry out appraisal activities designed to assess the health status of all assigned students and ascertain their health needs.
To counsel students and advise their parents regarding medical, dental, or other health treatment when it is deemed advisable.
To serve as a resource and advisory person in providing assistance in the identification and evaluation of children with handicapping conditions in assigned school units.
To conduct school health services including immunizations, hearing and vision tests, and any other health practices approved and directed by the Superintendent of Schools.
To protect student health by attention to environmental health and safety factors concerning the schools and grounds.
To provide emergency care for illness and injury occurring in school or while the student is under the jurisdiction of the school.
To advise teachers on health matters, including screening for health problems.
To assist the teachers in adapting the school program to meet the individual physical and emotional needs of all students.
To maintain health records for all assigned students and to interpret these records as required.
To prepare and submit data and reports as requested by the Head Nurse.
To attend all staff conferences relating to health problems and services.
To participate in In-Service programs as required by Administrative Policy.
To requisition health supplies from the Head Nurse as needed.
Any other duties assigned by the Head Nurse, Principal, or Director of Pupil and Special Education Services.

Requirement /Qualifications:

Conducts speech, language and/or communication testing and diagnostic examinations of students for the purpose of recommending courses of action or corrective procedures of a student’s communication disorder, delay, or difference and its impact on academic and social performance.
Conducts individual, group or facilitative therapy for students whose diagnosed problems would benefit from services from a speech-language pathologist.
Assists with the identification and placement of all types of exceptional students.
Coordinates and collaborates with administrators and other teaching staff members to ascertain individual student's strengths and needs, including students with special needs, and to familiarize stakeholders with speech-language services.
Attends and participates in meetings (i.e., PPTs) as needed for students with special needs.
Serves as a ready resource in education and speech language pathology to students, families and staff to provide services that will lead each student to increased personal growth, self-understanding, and maturity.
Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research, and by maintaining professional relationships.
Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping and providing student information to prospective colleges and employers, as required by district procedures, applicable laws and Medicaid billing.
Encourages and models family collaboration in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and families.
Selects and requisitions appropriate books, aids and other supplies and equipment and maintains inventory records.

Requirements:
