The Director of Student Support Services coordinates and administers all special services programs.
(10-12 month position TBD)
Responsibilities:
· Serves as an advocate for all children with special emphasis on the advocacy for children with special needs.
· Administers special services office and coordinates District 57 special services programs provided by speech language pathologist, psychologist, special education teacher, occupational therapist, physical therapist, social worker, nurse and nurse assistant.
· Implements special education staffing decisions, assists in recruitment, oversees special services personnel and co-evaluates special services personnel in conjunction with building administrators.
· Assesses special services needs for the future and develops organizational plans for the Superintendent.
· Attends all out of district special education staffing, professional inter-agency meetings and case conferences on placement of individual students when appropriate.
· Serves as administrative representative to NSSEO and LICA.
· Completes all state and federal reports and stays breast of state mandates, requirements and changes in instructional programs for students with special needs.
· Coordinates decisions on new assistive technology and targeted intervention materials.
· Coordinates and monitors problem solving , (RTI) Response to Intervention teams.
· Coordinates process to facilitate Child Find and deliver related services to private and parochial students.
· Develops and oversees the special services budget.
· Serves as homeless liaison.
· Coordinates early entrances to kindergarten and first grade.
· Coordinates and monitors home/hospital instruction.
· Coordinates the District 57 special education Extended School Year program.
· Serves as school records custodian (retention and destruction of special education and permanent records.
· Develops procedures for special services such as preschool screening.
· Maintains case records on all referred students.
· Consults on special needs of students with teachers and parents.
· Coordinates with personnel of community health and social welfare agencies.
· Assists with in-service training of school personnel.
· Performs additional tasks as requested by the Superintendent.
Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in Administration, Special Education, or related field.
Administrative Certificate (Type 75) with Director of Special Education Endorsement,
or Type 75 Supervisor/Administrator of Special Education
