POSITION: 6th Grade Teacher

REPORTS TO: Site Principal

CREDENTIAL REQUIREMENT: A Valid Multiple Subject Credential

POSITION PURPOSE:

This is a 6th Grade self-contained core assignment. This core position will focus on teaching Math and Science. This position reports to the school principal/supervisor or designee of the school/office to which the employee is assigned for administrative direction.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Participates in programs and activities that promote diversity, equity and inclusion.
• Uses information about individual students’ academic strengths, needs, and progress in planning.
• Designs activities to engage students in cognitively challenging work aligned to standards
• Uses resources that will promote high levels of learning and student engagement in the classroom environment
• Supports and cooperates with colleagues in order to promote a professional school culture
• Closely monitors student learning in order to understand how students are progressing toward the learning objectives and provides students with instructive and timely feedback that will move their learning forward
• Establishes a classroom environment that is safe and supportive, risk-taking is encouraged, students feel free to contribute their ideas, and teacher and student interactions are respectful and polite to promote a positive learning environment for all students
• Provides clear behavior expectations for students and monitors student behavior throughout the class and school campus.
• Initiates or participates in Individualized Education Plan (IEP) meetings with administrators, faculty, parents, and other parties involved to develop an IEP for eligible students
• Utilized District approved behavior modification techniques to implement the IEP goals and continually monitors student progress toward IEP goal achievement
• Provide leadership and participates in programs and activities that promotes the district’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
• Participates in co-teaching as needed to best serve students and programs.
• Follows established policies and procedures for reporting incidents (e.g., child abuse, substance abuse, harassment, and violence)
• Communicates with families to create a partnership around student learning by providing information about the instructional program and the progress of their child(ren)
• Reflects on practice and student work to determine what went well and what changes could improve instruction and uses reflection to inform future instruction

OTHER FUNCTIONS:
• During periods of critical shortage or other emergency situations, shall temporarily perform any duties as directed within the authorization of any credentials held by the incumbent that are part of the class description requirements in effect at the time such duties are performed.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:             
• Bachelor’s degree, including courses needed to meet credential requirements

POSITION PURPOSE:
 
This position is responsible for creating a classroom environment that develops in each student an awareness and appreciation of the role of mathematics, and that motivates each student to acquire knowledge of mathematics facts and principles.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS):
 
 
• Teaches skills, knowledge, and a working understanding of the curriculum designated by Conejo Valley Unified School District.
• Develops lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with the division’s basic instructional philosophy and congruent with course standards.
• Plans a math program involving demonstrations, lectures, discussions, and student projects.
• Provides leaderships and participates in programs and activities that promote diversity, equity and inclusion.

• Provides individualized and small group instruction and adapts the curriculum to the needs of each pupil with varying abilities, and to accommodate a variety of instructional activities.

Position: Speech and Language Pathologist

Salary: Certificated Salary Schedule
 
Basic Function: Provides assessment and services for students with speech and language disabilities in the areas of articulation, receptive and expressive language, fluency, voice and deaf/hard of hearing.
 
Supervision: Under the general direction of the Director of Special Education. Under the immediate direction of the site administrator while performing speech and language services at the school site.
 
 
 
Physical Characteristics:
 
• Sit and stand for extended periods of time
• See and read printed material with or without visual aids
• Hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels, outdoors and on the telephone
• Speak so that others may understand at normal classroom levels, outdoors and on the telephone
• Stand, walk, bend over, reach overhead, grasp, push, pull, move lift and/or carry up to 25 pounds to waist height 
 
 
 
Conditions: Employees in this position will be required to work indoors and outdoors in a school environment and come in direct contact with students, families, district staff and the public. Services are provided in an environment that is conducive to effective individual and/or small group instruction.
 
 
 
Minimal Qualifications: Clinical or Rehabilitative Services – Language, Speech and Hearing Credential issued by California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. 
 
 
 
Representative Duties:
 
1. Identify, with the help of parents and school team, students who need communication assessments.
2. Assess students’ communication skills using appropriate test instruments, parent and teacher interviews, record review and observations relating speech and language needs to classroom learning.
3. Evaluate the results of a comprehensive assessment to determine if the findings qualify students for speech and language or other services with the help of the school team and the child’s parents/guardian.
4. Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) for students who qualify for services under current federal and state regulations and local policies within legal timelines, in collaboration with parents and school teams.
5. Service and remediate communication deficits through the use of appropriate materials and activities including augmentative and alternative communication systems which directly correspond to goals and objectives set forth in IEPs
6. Document outcomes for students with communication disorders.
7. Train school staff and parents in understanding how various communication disorders affect academic development.
8. Collaborate with teachers and other school staff in developing and providing intervention strategies that foster students’ understanding, speaking, reading and writing skills that meet the demands of general school activities through inservices or personal communication with them.
9. Advocate for effective teaching practices by keeping abreast of curriculum development, program designs, and material choices within the school district and helping to serve on committees which make these decisions when appropriate.
10. Be available to serve on the Student Study Team as needed.
11. Participate in the IEP processes as a collaborative member of the mult-disciplinary team.
12.  Participate in staff meetings as requested.
13. Keep required documentation of services provided to include therapy logs and MediCal forms.
14. Prepare student progress reports and communicate with parents on such through personal meetings and/or phone conversations.

QUALIFICATIONS: Verification of a Bachelors Degree and a current California Special Education Teaching Credential.
 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Daily contracted services for the current school year.
• First 1-30 days of current school year - $166 for full day/$83 for half day 
• 31-90 days of current school year - $194 for full day/$97 for half day
• 91+ days of current school year - $220 for full day/$110 for half day
• Long Term Assignment (61+ consecutive days in the same classroom responsible for all teaching responsibilities) - $277 per day
                           
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
 
1. Maintain a positive learning environment and respond to the individual needs of the students.
2. Implement effective lessons in the absence of the regular Instructor.
3. Ensure that district policies are observed during all activities.
4. Create a safe classroom environment that is conducive to learning.
5. Keep all children in the classroom under supervision at all times. 
6. Be familiar with fire exits, fire drill procedures, severe storm and tornado warning procedures. 
7. Review notes for the day, take attendance and follow the lesson plans of the teacher.
8. Maintain confidentiality as defined by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
9. Demonstrate the ability to adapt to circumstances. 
10. Exhibit good judgment and use appropriate language or behavior while on assignment.
11. Report for duty 30 minutes early and remain on duty for the entire assignment, including planning time of the teacher.
