POSITION SUMMARY:   AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is a program designed to close the opportunity gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society.  Tutors play a critical role in helping students develop these skills while they work with small groups of junior high and high school students during AVID elective classes under the supervision of an AVID teacher.  Tutoring in the AVID class is not about providing students with answers to questions but rather is about helping students access what they already know as they approach a problem.  Tutors serve as guides and facilitators of students’ learning through questioning, writing, thinking, and discussing.  Candidates will be selected because they have the ability to make a positive contribution to the lives of students.  All AVID tutors will receive several hours of paid training prior to their work in the classroom.  Hours vary between 1 hour to 6.5 hours per day and days vary depending on location.

The position of Teacher – Grades 1-3 is for the purpose/s of improving student success in academics through implementing District approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; developing lesson plans; modeling the necessary skills to perform assignments; providing a safe and optimal learning environment and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc. The Teacher – Grades 1-3 plans, implements and monitors education programs for assigned students.
 
Essential Job Functions:
 
• Teaches reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics, science, art, music, physical education, and health education utilizing course of study and skill sequences consistent with district and school goals and objectives
• Instructs students in citizenship, basic communication skills, literacy, numeracy, and other general elements of the course of study specified in state law and administrative regulations, district policy, and procedures of the school
• Develops lesson plans and instructional materials to provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student
• Leads students through the development of a work sample and evaluates that work sample
• Supervises and administers the Oregon Statewide Assessments, including preparation, logistics, and security consistent with district policies and practices
• Monitors individual students, classroom and/or playground activities for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment
• Plans and coordinates the work of educational assistants or other paraprofessionals in the classroom
• Evaluates academic and social growth of students consistent with the requirements of the district program, keeping appropriate records and reports
• Evaluates the instructional program for students
• Develops and uses multimedia instructional materials suitable for various learning modalities of students with a wide range of mental, physical and emotional maturities
• Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to achieve a functional learning environment and effective participation in all activities in and out of the classroom
• Utilizes and incorporates new materials and processes
• Participates in evaluation of materials, equipment and textbooks for suitability for the classroom. Creates an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays of students, bulletin boards and interest centers.
• Creates and maintains an active, responsive climate for learning, through positive teacher-student rapport and helps students to develop a positive self-image
• Communicates with parents through a variety of means
• Holds parent conferences to discuss individual student’s progress and to interpret school programs
• Participates on a regular basis in in-service at both school and district level to maintain professional competence
• Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs relating to students within the school and/or on the district level

POSITION SUMMARY:   The Educational Assistant – Special Education provides educational supports through instruction and supervision of students with disabilities under the direct supervision of special education teacher, specialist and/or classroom teacher; completes routine clerical tasks for teachers; and assists students by providing for special health care needs. Students may have one or more academic, emotional, cognitive, physical and/or sensory challenges. 
        
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training, Experience, Licensure and Certification
• Experience Required: Prior job -related experience, paid or volunteer, with school age children 
• Education Required: Completed associates or higher degree, completed at least two years of study at an institution of higher education (72 college quarter hours or more) or met a rigorous standard of quality and can demonstrate, through a formal state or local academic assessment, knowledge of and ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics 
• Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required: Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance and First Aid/CPR card and Bloodborne Pathogen training

 ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
• Works under the guidance and direction of Special Education Teacher, Specialist, and/or classroom teacher with access to assistance and consultation 
• Works collaboratively by assisting teachers in implementing lesson plans and/or developing students' daily living and behavioral skills (e.g. hygiene and grooming, anger-management, social skills) both in special classrooms and in the general education setting 
• Provides instructional support to students in large groups, small groups, and one-on-one situations. 
• Adapts classroom work/homework under the direction of the teacher to support and/or reinforce individual and classroom learning objectives 
• Administers first aid, medical assistance and delegated health services (e.g. tube feeding to students, catheterization, toileting) for the purpose of providing appropriate care for ill, medically fragile and/or injured children 
• Maintains specialized equipment identified for individual or classroom use for the purpose of addressing student learning needs and ensuring a safe and appropriate learning environment 
• Maintains classroom equipment and student files/records as pertains to special education files/records to ensure a safe and appropriate learning environment, including database entries for student collections and Medicaid billing purposes 
• Monitors individual students, classroom and/or playground activities for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment and addressing individual student learning needs 
• Performs record keeping and basic clerical functions, scheduling, copying, etc. to support teachers in maintaining student files and providing classroom materials and supporting home-to-school/school-to-home communications 
• Attend training, maintain a valid certificate (if applicable), and utilizes district approved de-escalation and physical intervention techniques when needed in both specialized and general education classroom settings and in non-instructional locations within and around the school environment 
• Develops materials for student IEP implementation 
• Uses progress monitoring tools under the guidance of the teacher for the purpose of determining student learning outcomes and collects other student performance data as directed by the teacher and/or specialist 
• Evaluates situations to take appropriate action and/or direct the situation to the appropriate personnel for resolution 
• Working Conditions: Work is performed in district schools, in both specialized and general education classrooms as well as other areas across the school environment; involves continuous strenuous efforts such as lifting students up to 50 lbs. without additional support; and may involve exposure to students needing personal, hygiene, medical care and/or physical interventions 
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
• Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities to meet the needs of assigned students and the Special Education program 
• Participates in various meetings for the purpose of sharing information and/or improving one's skills/knowledge 
• Confers with teachers and specialists for the purpose of assisting in evaluation of students' progress and/or implementing of students' objectives 
 
• Assists with the transportation needs of students, including walking them to and from the bus, supervision of students on the way to and from the bus, supervision of loading and unloading of busses, arranging for the transportation needs of students, and may include riding the bus with the student to and from school beginning and ending in a designated location. 
• Attends workshops, staff development classes, seminars and other meetings for continued professional growth 
• Performs other related duties as determined by the teacher, specialist or school administrator, which are indicated to ensure the physical and emotional well-being of students within the scope of their job

  • use precise control of fingers and hand movement, often in a repetitive motion such as keyboarding

• Regularly focus on a computer screen
• Bending, stooping, kneeling and lifting and/or moving up to 40 pounds may also be required on occasion

The job of the Special Services Secretary assists the assigned school teams (teachers, psychologists, speech pathologists, specialists, counselors, etc.) in managing meetings, parent communications, student records and other information necessary for the efficient and effective operation of special services programs.  The Special Services Secretary will convey information regarding school and/or District functions and procedures and ensure compliance with state and federal legal requirements.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
• Collects and maintains data and records on special services students as required by the district, state, and federal regulations under the supervision of licensed staff
• Composes reports and documents for administrators and other school and district staff regarding enrollment, referrals, services, etc. regarding special services students
• Manages referrals from parents, teacher and counselors and ensures case managers are assigned according to Special Services Team decisions
• Processes documents and materials (i.e. schedules, agendas, mail, etc.) for the purpose of disseminating information to appropriate parties
• Schedules Special Education Meetings as recommended; notifies parties involved according to established procedures
• Responds to inquiries of staff, the public, parents, and or students for the purpose of providing information and/or direction as may be required
• Orders necessary supplies and other materials as requested
• Monitors assigned activities and/or program components for the purpose of ensuring compliance with financial, legal and/or administrative requirements
• Maintains special services students' permanent records for students enrolled, including entering student information in the student information system or other related program (i.e. enter program assignments in the student information system and IEP program on student transcripts.)
• Composes documents (e.g. correspondence) for the purpose of communicating information to school and district personnel, the public, state and federal officials, etc.
• Evaluates situations to take appropriate action and/or direct the situation to the appropriate personnel for resolution
• Collects statistical data and compiles data for reports; researches and updates files and databases; locates information for staff and students.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
• Cross-trains in a variety of GBSD functions and assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities within scope of job description and pay range
