Overview
The School Program Principal at the Kane County Juvenile Justice Center ensures that all students residing in the detention center, regardless of their circumstances or projected time in custody, have access to a consistent high-quality education; works closely with detention center leadership to oversee a safe and equitable learning environment; ensures that clear and measurable goals are established and monitored regarding the achievement of individual students within the school and that the environment fosters the same; supervises teachers in the detention center.
This position supports the mission, vision and goals of the Regional Superintendent of Schools and acts as an effective and professional representative of the Regional Office of Education.
Performance Responsibilities
To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Maintain a professional environment at all times
Supervise the daily and ongoing operations of the school program within the juvenile detention facility
Foster a positive learning culture
Serves as the instructional leader for the facility
Supervise and evaluate teachers
Review, monitor & create documents to show evidence of student work, progress
Review & monitor student IEP’s to provide differentiated instruction
Provide and participate in Professional Development training
Assure that curriculum is aligned with State Standards
Support all instructional programs including high school equivalency and online programs
Provide updates & feedback to appropriate stakeholders within and outside the organization
Work with students’ public schools to ensure effective transition and academic records/credit transfer
Any and all responsibilities assigned by the Regional Superintendent or Cabinet level supervisor
Qualifications
Education
Master’s degree
Experience
Minimum of two (2) years of teaching experience in a public school setting
Licensure
Professional Educator License endorsed in an administrative field required; LBSI endorsement preferred.

Willingness to obtain LBSI endorsement
Terms of Employment
Full-time, twelve (12) month year
Salary, work hours and scheduling are at the discretion of the Regional Superintendent or designee and per ROE policy
Supervision & Evaluation
This position reports to the Assistant Regional Superintendent
Performance will be evaluated per ROE policy.

Maintains regular communication with the Director and staff. Works collaboratively as a team player
Provides administrative assistant support in the form of answering phone calls and correspondence
Enters purchase requisitions and follows through ordering and processing for payment
Organizes office meeting/workshop needs, including set-up/clean-up of rooms
Work with Youth Outreach on expense reports
Assist with Regional schedule and meets with parents upon arrival
Scan letters to Laserfiche
Coordinates all arrangements and scheduling of the Bus Driver classes - Initial and Refresher
Organizes and prepares contracts for Youth Outreach Workers and Bus Driver Course Instructors
Orders all necessary materials
Processes, prepares, sends appropriate certificates and letters for truancy and transportation
Prepares for and attends Transportation Director meetings
Maintains Homeschooling Database and provides necessary documentation
Assists the general public in the main office
Serves as a testing Proctor as needed*
Any and all responsibilities assigned by the Regional Superintendent or Cabinet level supervisor
Salary Range: 42,000-48,000
